My cat has yellow discharge from her bum, is it serious?

Hello, sorry to hear about Comet. It sounds like he has an abscessed area wether at the tail or anus. Some pets may develop impacted anal glands that become infected and turn into anal gland abscesses. I would recommend having Comet evaluated by a veterinarian as this infection will need to be treated with antibiotics and the area will need to be cleaned. I hope this helps and best of luck.

In a close area it is easy for parasites to spread, especially if the cats use the same area to go potty. I would recommend taking 1-2 cats to the vet and bring fresh poop samples so they can look with a microscope. If none are found, they may need to send the sample to a lab to look for a more rare parasite called tritrichomonas. This is usually found in a larger cat group and can come and go but it isn’t as common. Once a diagnosis is made, they may be able to get medications to get the cats treated. I would also clean up stool as often as you can to decrease spreading and clean littler boxes with soap and water daily. Good luck!

Specifically diarrhea that is yellowish in color is often indicative of coccidia which is a parasite of the small intestine. It is possible it's something else like other parasites, dietary problem, etc. I don't know of any over the counter medicines for coccidia so you will have to consult with your vet and have Luna evaluated before they can prescribe medicine for her. They will be able to evaluate her and run a fecal exam then decide on the treatment. I hope see gets well soon.

That could typically be due either to anal gland infection/inflammation or diarrhoea with liquid feces. A check up is necessary if the signs are not resolving, despite a change in the dietary regime (bland diet with chicken and rice for the next 3-4 days). Antibiotics and anal gland expression may be needed.

This diarrhea could be due to a stomach illness, eating something rotten, a sudden change in diet, intestinal worms, or a foreign body. This is a spontaneous thing that can happen in pets with anal gland problems, where the anal glands fill up and are not able to express normally. We think this is caused by an underlying allergy, which can be discussed with your vet. Sometimes giving your pet a high fiber diet can help prevent reoccurence. Peanut Butter needs to see your vet for a short course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine to help this wound heal properly. He may also need the anal gland to be flushed thoroughly while under a mild sedative. I would recommend scheduling an appt for him soon to get this taken care of. In the meantime, you can purchase an e-collar from your local pet store and place it on him to deter him from licking the area and making the inflammation/irritation worse. Poor guy. I would recommend that Pussy be checked out by a vet as soon as possible. Her symptoms could be caused by intestinal parasites (worms, coccidia, giardia), bacterial or viral infection (panleukopenia), IBD, intestinal lymphoma, food allergies, among a few others. From the picture, I am also concerned that she may have a prolapsed rectum. This can occur with straining during diarrhea. Sometimes this prolapse will require surgery to put it back in place and allow it the chance to heal. A vet may recommend intestinal parasite screening or viral testing to determine the cause of her illness and prescribe appropriate treatment.
