Why won't my cat raise her tail, walk, or let me touch her back?

It sounds like she may have injured her tail or pelvis, possibly from an accident or bite. If this continues beyond 12hours or she develops any fever or additional pain you should have her checked by your vet

It sounds like Honey has likely hurt herself in this region. She may have got her tail trapped and hurt a nerve or muscle. Have a feel and see if there are any obvious lumps or pain. Another cause could be if her anal glands are impacted, your vet can check these. Hopefully if it is a pull injury it will get better with time.

That does sound very worrisome. Unfortunately an injury to the spine is not something that we can diagnose by hearing the clinical signs. As you know, a back injury can be very serious. I recommend to get mittens in to see the veterinarian quickly. The doctor will be able to palpate the back and should get an idea as to if a back injury is likely. Pets can also get soft tissue muscle pulls, hip pain and a variety of other ailments that are not as serious as a spinal injury. The first step though is to get her checked out. Hi there and thanks for posting. Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear Kitty was lost for a few days. That had to be very stressful. Also, I am sorry to hear she came back with a few medical issues. It is hard to say what exactly is going on with Kitty without examining Kitty first, but from your description it seems like Kitty may have injured her pelvis, spine, or rear limbs that may be causing her to not urinate properly or defecate as it may be painful for her or she has some neurological deficits disabling her to have control of her bladder. She could also have a urinary tract infection causing the straining to urinate as well. I would recommend visiting a veterinarian clinic soon so she can get some x-rays and a neurological exam in addition to a regular physical exam. Poor Mini Marm! Given her hind end discomfort, wetness, and interest from your other cat, my main concern would be that Mini Marm is having problems with her anal glands. These are normal scent glands that typically empty with a bowel movement, but can become impacted, infected, or can rupture. Other possible causes include bite wounds, injury to her tail base or pelvis, among others. I strongly recommend taking her to the vet for evaluation, because it is quite likely that antibiotics and pain medication may be needed. Do not give her any over the counter human pain medicine, as none are safe for cats. Until you can get to the vet, put an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking of the area, as this could make matters worse. You can also try using a warm compress on her hind end for 10 minutes 3-4 times per day if she will tolerate it. I hope this helps and that Mini Marm feels better soon!

Hi. It would be helpful to know how old she is, what your veterinarian has already done. I would be concerned about either a back issue such as a disc, neuropathy possibly caused by diabetes, or someother type of neurologic issue affecting the back legs. I would recommend you ask your veterinarian for a referral to a neurologist. They would be able to imaging of the area to look more closely. I would also recommend a full blood panel to check internal functions and for diabetes. Good luck

Without seeing Autumn physically it is hard to pinpoint exactly what is going on. She may have jumped off of something and hurt her back or if you have another cat in the house she may have rough housed with them a little too hard. If she is still like this in the morning I would recommend a physical examination with a veterinarian to see if this is pain related or something else.
