My kitten has severe back pain and isn't acting herself. What's wrong?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I strongly recommend taking the kitten to the vet. She may have an injury to that leg, or to her back. She may require x-rays if a fracture is suspected. in the meantime keep her confined to a small area such as a dog crate - room enough for sleeping, food, water and litter box but no running or playing. Do not give her any pain medications as many are toxic to cats.

Hi ! Your kitten needs to see a vet ASAP, to understand if there is a proble with her pelvis or with her back. The longer she is left, the less chance she has to recover sadly. Also she is going to be in a lot of pain which is also a big concern. I hope she can be treated and she can go back to full health soon. Without seeing Autumn physically it is hard to pinpoint exactly what is going on. She may have jumped off of something and hurt her back or if you have another cat in the house she may have rough housed with them a little too hard. If she is still like this in the morning I would recommend a physical examination with a veterinarian to see if this is pain related or something else. Oh my. This is quite concerning. Bunty could have sustained a musculoskeletal injury to his hips (dislocation) or he could have a saddle thrombus (blood clot in lower limb). He needs to be seen by a vet right away for testing and medical care. I hope your kitty turns out ok. Best wishes and take care.

This is definitely a situation where I would suggest taking him to a Vet asap. Many injuries are not visible to us after a "crush injury". Your kitten could have broken bones, internal bleeding, or even swelling in the spinal cord or a break.

Hi! It sounds as if Alice has been injured in this area. Is it possible that another cat may have bit her? If so, she could have an abscess (infection under the skin) brewing. Or, she might have landed wrong in a jump, and strained the muscles. Keep an eye on her tonight, and if this is still an issue in the morning, it is probably best that she is checked out by her vet. They might be able to figure out what is causing the tenderness, and prescribe some medication. Best of luck!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry to hear this happened to Givenchy. You really need to get her to a vet for an examination. She could have fractured/broken the leg, dislocated it or even avulsed the brachial plexus (bundle of nerves in the armpit). These are not things you are going to fix at home. I'm sure she is in a lot of pain and getting some pain medication from the vet would be a nice thing to do for her too. Please get her to the vet. It doesn't sound like a simple sprain. You can cold compress it if she will allow you to but that won't take the place of a vet exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
