Why is my cat's tail down, not lifting, and seems to be in pain?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 7.055 lbs

My cat seems completely fine, eating and playing normally but ive noticed that lately she does not lift her tail up its always down dragging behind her and when she gets excited or happy during food time she raises it up but only up to 45 degrees and not all the way up, and if i accidentally touched her down there on the bottom if her tail while carrying her she meows as if shes hurt, what could be the problem? Shes been like this for a 2 or 3 days now. Besides that shes normally fine

It sounds like Honey has likely hurt herself in this region. She may have got her tail trapped and hurt a nerve or muscle. Have a feel and see if there are any obvious lumps or pain. Another cause could be if her anal glands are impacted, your vet can check these. Hopefully if it is a pull injury it will get better with time.
