My cat won't eat or drink after biopsy with a cone. Is this normal?

She is probably a little sore from the surgery and falling off the bed. She needs to rest and sleep so she can recover more quickly. When you are with Kitty you can remove the cone so she can eat and drink. Just make sure she isn't licking the incision. I would do this four times a day so she can get her food and water. After a few days they usually figure out how to eat with the cone on. Often the incision will heal in a week so you can remove the cone when the incision is healed. I would get a soft paper collar at PetCo that you can tighten so he can’t remove it. If it’s been a day or two then go back to his normal litter. I don’t want to break his litter box training, and he could develop a urinary problem if he’s not going regularly. If the incisions are closed then the litter won’t be an issue. A cone on a cat can be a little stressful for them, and they can react by hiding, sleeping more, and refusing treats. She will eat when she is hungry, however, and just give her some time and space. She will adjust to the cone, but if she does stop eating altogether, you can take her cone off at mealtimes so she will eat. Be sure to watch her the whole time to make sure she doesn't lick at her bottom, and put it right back on when she's done eating.

Because Lily is eating wet food, she is getting moisture into her system through that. If she won't drink water, I would offer her more wet food to increase her hydration. She likely is having trouble drinking water with the cone on. Put the water in a similar bowl to the one she is eating out of, as she can clearly eat with the cone on from that bowl. Be sure to keep the cone on her because she will rip out her drains if she has access to them. To keep it on her, you can use a cat collar strung through the loops of Ecollar to prevent her from taking it off.

As far as the decreased eating goes, there can be many reasons for this. Dental or oral disease, pancreatitis, parasitic infections, organ dysfunction and other causes can all be possibilities. I do not really know what is exact issue you have with the e-collar but keep in mind that you can use things like pieces of clothing or other things to try to tighten it up if that is the issue. I would like to tell you that this is not going to be an issue but in reality this can be an issue if he gets to his incision depending on what kind of incision he has. It is very important he wears his e-collar to prevent something from happening to the incision. If nothing works, you could consider going to your local emergency hospital to get an e-collar as they would be open. Best of luck!

For the litter, I would recommend using shredded paper to prevent any fine dust particles from getting into the incision. I hope this helps!
