My cat just got neutered. How to feed with a cone and use litter?

I would get a soft paper collar at PetCo that you can tighten so he can’t remove it. If it’s been a day or two then go back to his normal litter. I don’t want to break his litter box training, and he could develop a urinary problem if he’s not going regularly. If the incisions are closed then the litter won’t be an issue. Oh Chandler, what a naughty kitty. They are so good at removing their cone! It looks like there is a little prolapsed tissue there likely from where he opened the incision. As long as he keeps his cone on overnight it will likely be okay to see you vet tomorrow. They can then make sure he doesn't need a suture and/or antibiotics. Kitties can be so naughty post surgery. Although it is not advised to do a full body bath, you can use a waterless shampoo and kitten wipes from your local pet store to get him clean. As long as the inicision site itself stays dry you are ok. Best of luck keeping kitty clean! : ) Take care.

The most important thing is to make sure that he is eating with a good appetite so I would just keep him on his usual diet if that is what he likes. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tristan! Mild redness and swelling is normal. If you want to repost pictures we can take a look. As for not using his litter box, he could be stressed. I would confine him for a few days with his litter box to retrain him to use it. Also then you can be sure he is urinating normal sized spots. There could also be some inflammation. If he still isn't using the litter box appropriately by tuesday call your vet, he may need more pain medications. For the next 2 days just be sure is is producing urine and eating. I hope this helps!

It depends on when your guy had surgery and if you mean urine/feces or both. If recent it could be anesthesia related as this can slow the gi tract down and/or he may be a little tired from the procedure/sedation. It could also be pain related. Do you notice anything abnormal about the neuter site (redness, swelling, discharge)? If he is eating and drinking normally then he will re establish normality soon. If he is not feeling well or you are worried about the surgery site it would be best to have him checked by your vet. However, it is important to consider using an e-collar if she is going to be left unattended to try to prevent her from licking at the incision and causing an infection or opening her incision.
