My cat has white worms after Advocate. Can I use Profender safely?

It depends on which type of worms you are talking about. Revolution does not kill tapeworms which is what I am guessing you are referring to. Profender will kill tapeworms. So, I would suggest you do both but don't put them on at the same time. I would do one, and then wait 7-10 days before applying the other one. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Profender is absorbed rapidly through the skin into the bloodstream and ultimately reaches the gastrointestinal tract where it is effective in killing susceptible parasites (roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms). Profender will kill susceptible parasites that are present in the intestine at the time of treatment. Cats should receive treatments every 3 months and kittens should receive treatment at 8 and 12 weeks and every 3 months thereafter to prevent future infestations. Reinfection can occur from the environment and contact with other infected pets. She may not vomit any worms or pass them out of the stools. It depends what stage of the life cycle the worms are in and which species of worm you are referring to. If you don't see any worms it does not mean it is not working. Advocate is not effective against tapeworms. I recommend you get your vet to identify the worms to ensure they are indeed tapeworms so the safest and most appropriate treatment can be prescribed. There are very few treatments available for tapeworm and they are mostly oral products

Yes you can certainly use these products together. Dewormers are often given in conjunction with heartworm preventatives, even though they both treat for intestinal worms because the safety margin for dewormers is very wide, allowing us to do multiple doses if needed. Best wishes and take care.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! His diarrhea will most likely resolve once the worms are gone. Just like your veterinarian suggested, this may take a few to even several days. For that reason, if it has not resolved, I would not be too concerned yet. If the worms are the only thing causing his diarrhea, this should resolve shortly. That will really be the best indicator of when the worms have resolved. Good luck!

Hello. Once the tapeworm has been killed by the wormer, the parasite is often digested ( it exerts a protective coating while alive ), & we usually do not see tapeworms passed in the stool. If it was a particularly heavy infestation, you may see some pass out, but this is not the norm. Any signs of tape segments should also disappear shortly. I like Profender, it is a good product, but I would follow label directions & reapply when recommended. Otherwise, once it wears off, your cat can pick up more tapeworms from hunting & from fleas ( make sure you are using a good flea preventative, too ). According to their package instructions, Profender is safe to use on pregnant cats before the birth of the kittens, but it cannot be used on kittens until they are 8 weeks of age. Panacur is safe on both pregnant cats and kittens as young as two weeks of age, and you can get that from the vet. I hope this helps!
