My cat is losing weight, vomiting, and has blood in stool. Is she dying?

I'm sorry this is going on with Precious but she needs to see a vet. The most common issues we see with older cats are: 1. diabetes 2. kidney disease/failure 3. hyperthyroidism Any of those can cause her symptoms and all are treatable (to an extent). All can be ruled out with simple blood testing. The best one she could have is hyperthyroidism - it is not expensive to diagnose or treat. Of course it may not be any of those and she could have something else going on entirely. First step is you need to know what the diagnosis is. I don't know what prices are in your area but an exam and bloodwork is probably right around $200. All you can do is call around for prices and see what you can work out. Some humane societies these days have low cost services so maybe check with them.

I would be concerned that Hutchi could have a foreign body, severe GI illness, ate something rotten or toxic, or could have pancreatitis. I can't see her in person, so I can't say for this for certain, but her symptoms appear to me to be caused by something more severe than a hairball. It's also serious she isn't eating or drinking, and I would take her back into the vet or have her see another vet for a second opinion.

Poor girl. It sounds like she's been to the vet and is hopefully under treatment. I can't tell from your question how long ago she had the reaction to the collar but get the impression it wasn't the last couple of days. I wouldn't expect on going issues if the collar was the only problem. If it's been more than a week or so, I would be suspicious that something else entirely is going on. Vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss are the classic symptoms that cats get for nearly every disease, so it's hard to know what could be going on with her. If her blood work is normal, I would be concerned about something primarily with her gut such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Lymphoma. The next step is probably an abdominal ultrasound.

It is common for cats to hide when they don't feel well. She needs to be taken to a vet to have the lethargy and bloody urine addressed. They will do blood work to check her kidneys function and a urine sample to check for an infection. Weight loss and dehydration can occur quickly in older cats. Your vet can better guide you in her quality of life based on the diagnostics.

It is possible that this particular stool was difficult to pass and you helping to remove it may have caused a small amount of bleeding from the rectal tissue. Cats can become constipated, and if she has been passing less stool than usual, straining to defecate and had a decreased appetite I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. There are some other things that can cause blood in the stool as well including intestinal parasites, colitis or even inflammatory bowel disease. If the blood is persistent you should make an appointment to see your veterinarian as well.

I can see that the vomit has blood in it, which can be caused by stomach ulcers. Dark feces can also be an indicator of digested blood in the stool, which occurs with ulcers. Ulcers can be caused by a number of underlying conditions such as chronic foreign bodies, diet, or kidney disease. The sneezing can be a sign of pain or unrelated to the vomiting (concurrent upper respiratory or lung disease). I recommend having your cat seen by a vet right away. They will likely recommend bloodwork and x-rays to diagnose and localize the issue and begin an appropriate treatment plan. This bleeding indicates a severe colitis (inflammation of the colon). This could be from a severe infection, or cancer. The sleeping constantly is worrying that she is losing so much blood that she is becoming anemic and/or very dehydrated. Given the severity of the problems you are seeing, Misty really needs veterinary treatment, because there is nothing that can be done for her at home. I recommend taking her to the vet as soon as possible. Sometimes, these problems can be easily cleared with appropriate medication and other treatment. I hope that helps and Misty gets better soon.
