Why is my 15-year-old cat bleeding, losing weight, sleeping a lot?

It sounds like Smokey has colitis, or an inflammation of the colon. In older cats that have this problem I worry about irritable bowel disease, hyperthyroidism and intestinal lymphoma (cancer). Since this has been getting progressively worse over the past year I would recommend taking her in to be checked out by the vet. They may recommend doing a fecal exam to rule out intestinal parasites, blood work, and possibly X-rays and an ultrasound. Good luck.

Poor Baby! It sounds like she has something more serious going on with her, and it could be that her anorexia, vomiting, and blood in the stool could be caused by GI tumors, GI polyps, irritable bowel disease, or a foreign body, among other causes. I would take her back into the vet for a physical exam, blood tests, a urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so treatment can be started. She may have something that's treatable, and her current symptoms do not necessarily mean she is dying. Have her seen by a vet in the morning.

Diarrhea with blood can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Clover evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is difficult to tell for sure without checking her over. It could be that her colitis is making her feel run down or it could be a slight worsening of one of her other conditions. I would recommend to keep an eye on how much she is drinking and how is her appetite and if she is having any vomiting. If she is just a little lethargic, I would book her in for a check up with your vet in the morning. Whilst if she is vomiting orhaving more diarrhoea than usual, I would recommend an earlier check up.

It is common for cats to hide when they don't feel well. She needs to be taken to a vet to have the lethargy and bloody urine addressed. They will do blood work to check her kidneys function and a urine sample to check for an infection. Weight loss and dehydration can occur quickly in older cats. Your vet can better guide you in her quality of life based on the diagnostics.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do at home. Feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and boiled white rice to help her intestines to calm down. Make sure he is drinking plenty of water. This may help but it will not fix the problem. Weight loss in a cat Pepper's age can be related to many things including kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, cancer and less likely worms. I would assume the diarrhea is related to whatever is causing the weight loss. You should contact the local humane society and see if there are any programs available to assist low income individuals. Pepper needs blood work, a urinalysis and possibly radiographs to figure out whats going on and to see if it can be treated. I hope things work out.

I recommend taking Princess to a vet. As cats age they can develop multiple different systemic diseases which they can develop these symptoms. The most common being diabetes, kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. Your vet can run blood work to see if she has any of these and discuss treatment with you.
