My cat's not eating, losing weight, has leg pain & bloody discharge.

Based on your description, I am quite concerned she may be dehydrated and may have some systemic disease or infection going on. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bella is beautiful! My concern is that Bella is not spayed and I am worried about the the mucous discharge you are describing. It may be coming from her vulva. She may have a mucous or pus filled uterus. With her belly being big too that is even more likely to be a uterus problem. Is she has a pus filled uterus (pyometra) that is a surgical emergency. It is good that it is draining. My recommendation is have her looked at sooner than later. Your Vet will likely do blood work and take a belly X-ray. I wish you and Bella the best of luck!

Losing weight, vomiting and diarrhea in an older cat can be concerning. The sound you may be hearing when she eats is grinding of her teeth which cats can do when they are nauseous or have stomach issues. Possible causes for her symptoms are: kidney failure, liver problems, an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer or possibly but less likely an obstruction (ate something that is stuck). Most of the above can be easily diagnosed on blood work. Your Vet may want to take an X-ray of her belly as well. I hope this helps and I wish Honey Bee the best!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Toots! I would bring a stool sample and have Toots examined by your Vet. I would recommend full blood work including Feline Leukemia and FIV. If that is normal then I would consider maldigeetion and malabsorption blood work (tests B12, folate and 2 pancreatic enzymes and consider an ultrasound of his belly to rule in or out underlying intestinal disease like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or small cell lymphoma. Most IBD cats are treated with a prescription diet and anti-inflammatories. Since he is getting worse I recommend starting a work up. I wish you and Toots the best!

Poor kitty! I totally understand your concerns here, as I too am deeply concerned about this cats current condition. These symptoms suggest this cat may have a severe urinary tract infection or even a bleeding abnormality, if you are seeing blood coming from the vaginal area. A uterine infection (pyometra) is also possible here which can be life threatening if not treated medically. This cat needs to be taken to a vet hospital right away for treatment, because this is beyond what you can do for this kitty at home. They need to run some diagnostics on this cat, which will likely be bloodwork +/- abdominal radiographs and likely a urine test if a bladder infection is suspected after a complete physical exam is done. Please take kitty in to your local vet right away for further care before her condition gets any worse. If you can't get her in right away then offer kitty some low sodium chicken or beef broth and small amounts of non-flavored Pedialyte diluted with water using a syringe or small turkey baster. I hope your kitty gets better soon!

Unfortunately there's not much you can do at home. Feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and boiled white rice to help her intestines to calm down. Make sure he is drinking plenty of water. This may help but it will not fix the problem. Weight loss in a cat Pepper's age can be related to many things including kidney disease, thyroid disease, diabetes, cancer and less likely worms. I would assume the diarrhea is related to whatever is causing the weight loss. You should contact the local humane society and see if there are any programs available to assist low income individuals. Pepper needs blood work, a urinalysis and possibly radiographs to figure out whats going on and to see if it can be treated. I hope things work out.

With the description and blood results, I worry about a condition known as hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) or triaditis (inflammation of the pancreas, liver and small intestines). For fatty liver disease, a feeding tube is generally recommended to help bring cats out of this condition as nutritional support is key and extremely important in these cases. I would recommend an abdominal ultrasound as the next diagnostic step to help better determine what the cause could be. If Kitty is still not wanting to eat, you need to consider hospitalization and feeding tube placement to help her get through this. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
