My cat is weak after vomiting. What food helps her regain strength?

I recommend feeding Hills a/d. It’s easily digestible, cats usually love it and it is very calorie dense so Watson will start to recover quickly even if he doesn’t eat that much. I would also have a dry kitten food available at all times and offer some tasty cat treats to stimulate his appetite. In addition to feeding many meals daily increasing his exercise will help build muscle and also stimulate his appetite and speed his recovery. I would recommend feeding her a high calorie, soft mousse such as royal canin recovery which is highly palatable and energy dense and can be very useful to promote weight gain during recovery. Ensure she is up to date with deworming medications also

A high calorie liquid diet such as viyo recuperation or royal canin gastrointestinal liquid diets are the easiest for her to digest when recovering, as well as oral electrolyte (salt and sugar solutions) which can be offered for her to drink or syringe fed. If the vomiting is still persistent she will require injectable fluids and nausea medications by your vet

Since she was missing for so long, an exam with your veterinarian would be recommended. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites. If she gets a clean bill of health, continue feeding a high quality canned diet until she is back to her normal weight.

With gastrointestinal disease, sometimes the intestines are just unable to absorb nutrients regardless of the type of food you feed. So, it is important to feed Elvis whatever he will eat. There are no natural remedies, as there is no quick medical fixes, either. Oral steroids often help for a while, but then other medications are often needed. You can try some of the cat foods labeled as sensitive stomach or sensitive skin. The best ones are made by Science Diet & Royal Canin. I would also try him on a good probiotic, like Purina's FortiFlora. It really does seem to help some of these cats with GI issues. I hope this helps Elvis with his weight loss & vomiting.

I would recommend taking Oliver back to the vet for re-evaluation. The vet may decide that retesting for diabetes and hyperthyroidism is a good idea - sometimes in the early stages of disease the tests would be very close to the normal range. If those tests are normal, then IBD should be considered. The most digestible diet without a prescription would be canned cat food, like Fancy Feast. The only way to help him gain weight is to get him to eat more food.

Destiny may be dehydrated from the vomiting. If the veterinarian did not administer fluids under the skin already, I would recommend calling the vet back and seeing if this is something that can be done or if it is something that needs to be done.
