My cat is walking in circles and falling after Onsior. Is it serious?

Sorry to hear about Mr. President. He may have an adverse effect from the Onsior, but is difficult to tell without knowing all of the previous history. I would expect a cat that is hurt to be less active and eat less, but if this was not a problem prior to the vet visit, then I would seriously question the treatment given. Onsior can cause adverse effects to the stomach and small intestines; which can lead to a lack of appetite, vomiting and gastrointestinal ulcers. I am concerned that the vomit was pink, because this can possibly be due to bleeding. However, bleeding in the stomach is usually seen as black, coffee-ground-like specs, so this is not typical of an ulcer. It's best to take a picture of the vomit (if you still can), so you can show your vet. I would recommend you have him rechecked by your vet within the next day to ensure everything is OK. They can help determine if anything different needs to be done. In the meantime, make sure to give food and water as normal and don't attempt to give any treatments without a veterinarian's direction. I hope that helps and Mr. President gets better soon.

This is not a typical side effect to onsior. I would have her reassessed to see if she might require additional pain management or if there is an infection currently brewing that needs addressing. If the breathing actually becomes labored or distressed, have her checked immediately. Hope this helps.

If the Onsior isn't expired and is the appropriate dosing for his current weight then you can give him a tablet. Do not give it if he isn't eating or is vomiting. Do not give extra and follow the specific instructions, once daily for no more than 3 days. Call your Vet Monday before giving anymore. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Chloe! I would take Chloe to the Vet when they open. Be careful not to get bit or have any of her saliva get in to open cuts. If she had any wounds on her in the last 6 months and hasn't be vaccinated for rabies, sadly that is very high on the list for a neurolgic kitten. Other possible causes are toxin ingested, FIP, infectious causes like toxoplasma, it is possible the Hartz medication is to blame so bring the packaging with you, or he could have an ear infection causing vestibular signs. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sissy! I would have Sissy seen today by a Vet. It sounds like she may be having a Vestibular event. The Vestibular system controls balance. Symptoms can show up suddenly and the dog or cat walks drunk, sometimes has a head tilt and their eyes move abnormally (nystagmus). the most common reason is an ear infection or polyp. Other causes are toxin ingestion, brain tumor, trauma, other cancer, Feline Infectious Peritonitis. Sissy should be examined for an ear infection, if present be prescribed ear drop and an oral antibiotic. It can take a few weeks for them to return to normal. In dogs if they have a head tilt it can be permanent. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds as if Chloe may be having trouble with vision as well? Often times when we see patients hugging close to walls and having trouble negotiating surroundings it's either their vision is impaired or they have severe spatial perception defects (think vertigo). It is possible that anesthesia can affect balance but it is normally seen pretty soon after a surgical process and not so far out. If she is having actual weakness as a problem with ambulation (walking) this will require a more in depth exam than we can provide online. Likely she will need a neurological work up with labs and x rays to find the source or her problem. For now I think you are doing everything correctly-keep her calm and in a small contained space (like a bathroom) to make her feel more secure for the time being. It is great that she is eating and drinking and having normal bathroom habits-these are positive signs. It sounds as if you are very good kitty parents. Just let her stay close to you if it helps and hopefully you will have some more in depth answers soon. My best to all of you.

Hello, and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’m sorry to hear about Topaz’s troubles! I’m concerned Topaz may not be seeing well or may have gone blind. There are certain conditions, such as retinal detachment, that can occur all of a sudden - so even though she was seen by a vet last month, I definitely recommend taking her in again now that there’s a new concern. The circling behavior could be because she’s trying to figure out her surroundings if she’s having trouble seeing, or could indicate a neurological problem. Definitely worth having a vet take a look to localize the issue. Hope this helps!
