My cat walked on broken glass or licked it. What to check?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the floor looked dry I am sure she is fine. I do not think she needs to see a vet. If you want to rinse her mouth out well with water as a precaution and wipe her paws well with water to prevent any more possible ingestion that isn't wrong. If she becomes lethargic, drools, won't eat or in anyway appears abnormal then bring her to the Vet. But based on your description I think she will be fine. Maybe have a discussion with your roommate about this so it won't happen again. I hope this helps!

If it just started you can let her rest for a few days with minimal walking and minimal physical exercise, if it does not improve within 3-4 days you will have to take her to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, she might need pain killers for a few days. if the vet think it's something more serious such as a fracture, joint injury or foreign body, he might recommend to have an xray done as well.

I had a boxer who did that once with a Christmas ornament! I would venture to guess that she probably bled from her mouth. Most likely it was her tongue. There are not a lot of great options to prevent problems. Hopefully any glass pieces were small. Some options you have would be to have her seen right away by a veterinary practice that has the ability to retrieve objects from the stomach with endoscopy. This requires anesthesia but not surgery. The other option is to wait it out. Monitor for any signs of lethargy, vomiting, or decreased appetite. These would be signs that there is a possible intestinal problem. If the glass is small and not attached to anything else then it will typically be able to move through the intestinal tract. However, there is always a chance of perforation. If the intestinal tract perforates then she will need extensive surgery and it is a very serious and potentially fatal situation. I would encourage you to at least call or go see your veterinarian to discuss the size of the glass pieces and what the best recommendation would be at that time. If one of Noushmc's paws seem to be wounded, I would recommend she see her veterinarian soon to take a closer look at the paw so it can be evaluated properly. If the underlying tissue is exposed, the paw can become infected and the litter can potentially be problematic if the wound is large enough. You can try using 3% hydrogen peroxide instead of the vinegar and water until you are able to get her seen by her veterinarian. I hope this helps!

Poor Sophie! I would check her mouth for any signs of cuts/wounds. If her mouth is bleeding or there is a large wound, bringing her to your vet for an exam and any needed care is best. I would also watch out for any other symptoms such as coughing, choking, vomiting blood/bloody diarrhea or a tender abdomen which may indicate a piece was eaten, and seek out care immediately if you suspect this happened.

I am sorry to hear about Kiara! I would watch her walk around and be sure she isn't limping. Check each foot including the toes, and flex and extend each of her 4 legs checking for sensitivity/swelling/bruising, check along her tail, and gently press along her spine. If nothing abnormal is noted I would not be concerned. If she does have a painful area or swelling/bruising then a trip to the vet would be recommended.

Hello. It sounds like you did a great job cleaning Frances off. Small ingestions like this are rarely harmful or dangerous, so I would not be worried. Just watch for any gastrointestinal upsets like vomiting, diarrhea or a loss of appetite. I really do not expect you to see anything, but it is good to be watchful.
