My puppy bit broken glass and I heard a crunch. Is she okay?

I had a boxer who did that once with a Christmas ornament! I would venture to guess that she probably bled from her mouth. Most likely it was her tongue. There are not a lot of great options to prevent problems. Hopefully any glass pieces were small. Some options you have would be to have her seen right away by a veterinary practice that has the ability to retrieve objects from the stomach with endoscopy. This requires anesthesia but not surgery. The other option is to wait it out. Monitor for any signs of lethargy, vomiting, or decreased appetite. These would be signs that there is a possible intestinal problem. If the glass is small and not attached to anything else then it will typically be able to move through the intestinal tract. However, there is always a chance of perforation. If the intestinal tract perforates then she will need extensive surgery and it is a very serious and potentially fatal situation. I would encourage you to at least call or go see your veterinarian to discuss the size of the glass pieces and what the best recommendation would be at that time. Watch for vomiting, excessive drooling, blood coming from her mouth, diarrhea, blood in her poop, lethargy, or a loss of appetite. If you see any of those signs, Abby will have to see a vet. Vets will see animals for medical emergencies during this time.

I would check her mouth and her paws for signs of the glass. Chances are, if she got any on her paws or in her mouth, there would likely be little cuts from it and you might see some signs of bleeding. When she was grooming herself, if she did have glass on her paws, she likely would have given out a cry of pain because the glass would have pierced her tongue and mouth. If she seems ok at the moment, that would suggest that she didn't get any glass on her paws or in her mouth. Check her over to be safe, but it's likely she will be fine and didn't get any glass on her paws or in her mouth. If she starts limping, then she may have gotten some in her paw, and I would take her into the vet for an exam. On the off chance she ingested some, you may see some blood in her feces, and I would take her into the vet if you do. I do think she should be ok, however, but it's always important to check to be sure.

I'm sorry to hear about this. The biggest concern with broken teeth is if the tooth root is exposed. This is not an emergency, but is painful and makes the teeth and roots susceptible to infection. In some cases the teeth can be repaired by a veterinary dentistry specialist, but in most cases they would have to be extracted. Considering this happened at the veterinary office, they should take some responsibility. I also understand that this would have been a difficult situation to control for the vet clinic and there may have been some broken teeth or dental disease prior to this incident. In these cases, I recommend talking with the veterinary practice owner and expressing your concerns and how you would like to be compensated. I understand that you must be very upset with them, but these matters can get much worse if you involve other people rather than communicating directly with the people in charge. It's best to talk with them directly as best as you can. I can tell you from experience that the clients that approach these issues calmly and reasonably with their concerns have more favorable outcomes. Give them a chance to explain their perspective and allow them to do the right thing (apologize and offer treatment for the teeth) on their own. Also, please understand that these are people too...who will occasionally make mistakes. I'm sure they did not want this to happen and I'm sure they feel bad about it. If talking with them does not work, or you feel that they did not give you a satisfactory response after giving them the opportunity, then the next step would be to take Mouch to another veterinarian for an outside opinion. They can give a non-biased evaluation of the problem and help you pursue compensation (if needed). It is possible, based on your description, that Monkey broke a tooth yesterday when he bit the person as puppy teeth break quite easily. Poor Baby! If you believe her leg is broken than you should restrict her activity and keep her quiet until she can be seen by a vet. As for the bleeding, she may have some internal injuries from whatever cause her leg injury. Hopefully, with rest the bleeding will stop. Your vet can do a complete physical examination to determine the extent of her injuries and take xrays, if needed, to determine the best way to treat. If there is an emergency vet open than it would be a good idea to have her seen right away, especially if she seems to be in a lot if pain.

You will need to take your puppy to a veterinarian for an exam and possible extraction of the tooth. If the pulpa of the tooth is damaged your puppy will need antibiotics, as puppies can get a tetanus infection from a fractured tooth. Please take Onyx to a vet asap.
