My cat's losing weight, vomiting, and in heat for almost a year?

Oh no, poor Shadow! She could be having a pyometra (infected uterus) event or another internal illness. None of these symptoms are normal for a cat in heat or just coming out or heat. And any cat that doesn't eat for more than a day should be examined by a vet because cats are masters at hiding diseaseand illness until they are really really sick. I would recommend taking Shadow in to be seen, examined and blood analysis ran to hopefully determine the underlying issue so that we know how best to treat her. Hopefully it is something your vet can deal with quickly so that we can get her feeling well again soon!

Poor girl. It sounds like she's been to the vet and is hopefully under treatment. I can't tell from your question how long ago she had the reaction to the collar but get the impression it wasn't the last couple of days. I wouldn't expect on going issues if the collar was the only problem. If it's been more than a week or so, I would be suspicious that something else entirely is going on. Vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss are the classic symptoms that cats get for nearly every disease, so it's hard to know what could be going on with her. If her blood work is normal, I would be concerned about something primarily with her gut such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Lymphoma. The next step is probably an abdominal ultrasound.

I am sorry that Daisy is so sick,. It sounds like you have a good vet working hard to make Daisy feel better. I know you said her barium study came back normal however if she is still vomiting it might be time for her to have additional testing. I would recommend if they have not done already blood work to look at the liver , kidney and white/red blood cell function. Also could she have gotten into a toxin or have a foreign object in her abdomen that the barium did not see. Unfortunately medicine is very frustrating because it can take a while to determine the cause of illness. Also I would make sure Daisy does not have a virus like parvo or parasites. I would recommend continuing to discuss options with your vet who is taking care of daisy and I hope she starts feeling better soon!!

Oh my. She could have a number of things causing these symptoms including an underlying heart condiiton, pyometra (spontaneous infected uterus, only seen in cats that are not spayed), or even a viral infection. I would highly recommend getting some blood testing done first to help us know what is going on internally so that we know what she needs to hopefully recover from this. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Daisy! Daisy could have a urinary tract infection, but most animals do not lose weight with that. I recommend that you take her to your Vet first thing tomorrow. They should get blood work to check her kidney, liver and blood sugar and test her urine for infection or crystals. They may want to take a belly X-ray to check for bladder stones. Sometimes the urine can be discolored if they have bilirubin in the urine. Cats that are jaundiced are very sick. Check the whites of her eyes, her ears and that thin area of hair above the eyes. If it looks yellow then she should see a vet today. i wish you the best and a speedy recovery for Daisy

Hello, sorry to hear about Suzy. It may be that her heat is causing the signs you are seeing. Cats in heat will vocalize more often and frequently and this is to be expected. However, the vomiting may or may not be associated with her heat cycle. If she continues to vomit, then you should have Suzy evaluated to make sure she does not have any evidence of dietary indiscretion, ingestion of foreign material or an infection in her uterus. If you want to prevent future heat cycles and the behavioral changes associated with this, then considering spaying her would be an option. Contact your veterinarian to have Suzy evaluated if she continues to vomit. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor Checker! This is a huge amount of weight to have lost in a year, so I would say that something is definitely wrong. In older cats with significant weight loss like this and normal blood work, the most common possible causes would be an intestinal absorption issue like inflammatory bowel disease (which can be present even if she is not having diarrhea), or some type of abdominal cancer. The next diagnostic steps would be abdominal x-rays and ultrasound, with exploratory surgery and intestinal biopsies if needed to get a definite diagnosis. If this isn't possible for financial reasons, a trial course of oral steroids and injectable vitamin B12 might be helpful - I would suggest discussing these options with your vet to see what he/she recommends.
