My cat is throwing up small amounts. What to do if my vet is closed?

Poor kitty. If Bleu is throwing up consistently (more than 2 times within a 24 hr period), then yes this is cause for concern that he may be ill and in need of medical attention. Also if he is lethargic and unwilling to eat, or throwing up water, then those are also causes for concern. A vet visit is needed to do necessary testing to find out what the underlying problem is so that he gets proper treatment. However, if he only had one or two bouts of vomiting, is otherwise acting normal, and has a good appetite, then I would recommend fasting him (no food, only water) for the next 12 hrs so that you don't continue to upset his stomach. Then after that offer him small amounts of a bland diet (tuna and white rice) for the next few days, then slowly transition him back to his normal diet. He may have just eaten something that upset his stomach or may even have an irritating hairball. I hope that this helps and I am hopeful that Bleu feels better soon. Best wishes and take care.

Your cat really needs to see a vet if he has been vomiting for hours. I would see if there is an ER clinic in your area you can take him into now. If not, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Please find an ER vet or a vet on call to see him now. Until them, withhold food and offer water. Keep him warm and comfortable.

Hello, remove any food available to him and just have water available. Bring him to your veterinarian when they open in the morning and look for any potential clothing, toys, or string that he could have eaten and let your veterinarian know if you're suspicious he may have gotten into something. King will most likely require x-rays and bloodwork to check for potential causes of his vomiting. My biggest suspicious is that he could have eaten something that is now stuck in his GI tract. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken (white fish) and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitely recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Hello, sorry to hear about Cheeto. I would watch him for continued episodes of vomiting or if he develops any lethargy, decreased appetite or diarrhea. Things we worry about with sudden onset or persistent vomiting in cats include dietary indiscretions, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ingestion of foreign material, obstruction or a mass which is probably the least likely in a young cat. If his vomiting persists or gets worse overnight, or if he develops any other signs then I would definitely bring him to an emergency clinic. Poor guy. If he continues to vomit or is also really lethargic, has pale gums or is breathing abnormally, then that indicates he is highly unstable and needs to go to an ER vet. However, if he is still alert, active and mentally sound, he should be ok to try a bland diet of tuna and white rice to hopefully settle his stomach. He may have an infection however so have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning if he continues to have these symptoms. I hope your kitty Elliot feels better soon!

Sorry to hear that Ryder isn’t feeling well! If he is hiding, seems painful, is having diarrhea or seems listless/lethargic, take him in. If his attitude is still seems good and the vomiting seems to be slowing down significantly this afternoon it is reasonable to monitor him, but if he does become lethargic, seems painful, is hiding, starts having diarrhea or if he continues to vomit into the evening, please take him in. If you are going to watch him at home, offer small amounts of water at a time frequently, and hold off food until tomorrow morning, unless he is a diabetic. If he does have diabetes, he should go in if he’s been vomiting all day. I hope that is helpful!
