My IBD cat is vomiting for hours, vet's closed. What should I do?

Poor guy. If he has vomited more than a few times within an hour and seems unstable (lethargic, weak, non-responsive), then this is considered an emergency and he should go to any available vet or ER vet today. However, if he is still active, nice pink gums, and responsive, you can monitor him to see if the vomiting subsides. You should also fast him (not food, only water) for at least 12 hrs, then try offering him a bland diet of tuna and white rice or lean ground turkey and white rice to see if you can help settle his stomach. Hopefully he turns around and just ate something that upset his stomach a bit. I hope that Mitch recovers soon from his apparent stomach upset. Best of luck moving forward. Take care. : )

Hello, remove any food available to him and just have water available. Bring him to your veterinarian when they open in the morning and look for any potential clothing, toys, or string that he could have eaten and let your veterinarian know if you're suspicious he may have gotten into something. King will most likely require x-rays and bloodwork to check for potential causes of his vomiting. My biggest suspicious is that he could have eaten something that is now stuck in his GI tract. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pinkie! Pinkie needs to see a Vet. There is likely an open Emergency hospital in your area. Your Vet, if you call them, should have an answering machine providing emergency clinic numbers. I wouldn't be too sure they are closed Monday. My hospital is open. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, foreign body, dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion, kidney or liver problems, food allergy/intolerance, coughing from asthma. I'm sorry that Jinx isn't feeling well! Pancreatitis and kidney disease are both serious conditions that require veterinary attention. Not eating/drinking can cause cats to become dehydrated and experience liver injury as the low energy balance causes the liver to metabolize fats differently. Jinx may need to be stabilized with fluids - most towns/cities have emergency clinics that are open 24 hours/day and will be able to help Jinx.

These are signs of possible intoxication. A ER vet should be seek and found as soon as possible to give appropriate treatment. IV fluids gastric decontamination and medication to decrease gastrointestinal absorption are required.

Hello, sorry to hear about Cheeto. I would watch him for continued episodes of vomiting or if he develops any lethargy, decreased appetite or diarrhea. Things we worry about with sudden onset or persistent vomiting in cats include dietary indiscretions, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ingestion of foreign material, obstruction or a mass which is probably the least likely in a young cat. If his vomiting persists or gets worse overnight, or if he develops any other signs then I would definitely bring him to an emergency clinic. You should not attempt to feed him today and then offer boiled chicken and rice tomorrow in the morning. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is a medical emergency, and you cannot do anything at home for Kitty. He has to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
