Why is my cat still throwing up plastic and other things post-surgery?

Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I'm sorry Franziska isn't doing well! When a cat is spayed, there is no entry into the stomach or GI tract, so it would be impossible for this object to be something from her spay surgery. In addition, rope isn't used in a spay surgery. It sounds like you aren't sure if you have something like this in your home, so it is possibility that she could have eaten it at your house previously or maybe it was something she found outside if she is allowed outside. If she appears ok for now, I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Without a picture it is hard to comment on the bump. But commonly they can develop a reaction to the suture with causes more inflammation and can cause a bump. Or if they are too active after surgery they can develop a small Seroma which is fluid and swelling. each if these goes away in time with no treatment As far as the vomiting I would just give her dry food for the next week to give her some time to rest her GI track. You can introduce canned food back after that and if the vomiting continues then consult your vet about a food allergy or medication to help

Is he still on the antibiotics? If so maybe you could call and request a different medication? If he is no longer taking the medication and he is still vomiting then she should have a follow up appointment. It is possible that it is just coincidental with the neutering and he could have a foreign body in his stomach, or a parasite causing him to vomit. They may want to do an x-ray and/or some blood work. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

It is common for animals to experience nausea post-surgery, especially if it is an abdominal surgery or strong pain medications are used. If you are giving any medications, I would stop for 24 hours and notify the veterinarian that you are stopping the medications to see if Stella improves. If you are giving something such as Buprenex for post operative pain control, this particular drug can cause nausea, vomiting, shaking, lethargy, etc. If she is not improved within 24 hours, then I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pixie! Since Pixie failed outpatient medications then I agree she needs to be seen again tomorrow. I would not feed her for 12 hours before your appointment so she has an empty stomach. She needs blood work and belly X-rays. I worry that she may have eaten something that is stuck. Other causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/table food. Definitely do not pull the plastic out. It could be anchored "further up" and you may do significant damage to her gastrointestinal tract by pulling on it. Monitor her closely over the next day or so for lethargy, vomiting, and decreased or absent appetite, and check the litterbox to see that she eventually does poop it out. If you don't see the plastic, or any of those signs develop, take her in to your veterinarian.
