My cat is throwing up pink foam and won't drink. Is it serious?

This does appear like blood, but I would first want to know if he/she ate anything that was red colored. If she/he did eat something red colored within the past three hours, then I'd assume this is causing this appearance. If not, then it's likely blood, which indicates an esophageal or gastric ulcer. Bleeding from these locations can be dangerous, because they can lose a significant amount of blood in the stomach and intestines. For this reason, we consider this an emergency and recommend a visit to the vet as soon as possible for an accurate diagnosis and treatment. It's not possible to say exactly what is causing this, as there are a few different possibilities. One possibility is that your cat ate something they were not supposed to like medication, a chemical (i.e. antifreeze), or a plant (i.e. lilies). Vomiting is often the first signs of an exposure to a toxin, so I recommend checking if it's possible for your cat to have eaten anything other than the normal diet. Vomiting and nausea can also be due to an infectious disease, organ failure, or imbalance in the blood. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pinkie! Pinkie needs to see a Vet. There is likely an open Emergency hospital in your area. Your Vet, if you call them, should have an answering machine providing emergency clinic numbers. I wouldn't be too sure they are closed Monday. My hospital is open. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, foreign body, dietary indiscretion, toxin ingestion, kidney or liver problems, food allergy/intolerance, coughing from asthma. Poor kitty! She could have a severe GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, a foreign body, or pancreatitis. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I don't think this require an emergency visit but i would definitely recommend making a sooner apointment for you vet, preferably before the weekend as this sound like a gastrointestinal condition that will require treatment, possibly a course of antibiotics and a change of food.

Oh dear - poor Mickey! I agree that it's very concerning that she's been vomiting so much today and hasn't been eating or drinking. It's less surprising to me that she isn't using the litter box right now -- remember, nothing going in means nothing coming out. Given her young age, the most common cause for vomiting with a loss of appetite is a gastrointestinal obstruction or blockage from eating something she shouldn't have. As a result, I would strongly recommend taking Mickey to an emergency vet right away for evaluation. They'll be able to examine her and perform any necessary diagnostics (namely x-rays) to help get to the bottom of this issue. If Mickey is diagnosed with an obstruction, she'll need surgery to remove the blockage. In this situation, it's best not to delay treatment. I hope that she makes a speedy recovery!

It sounds as California is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
