My cat is vomiting, lethargic, won't eat. Should I wait for vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My cat has thrown up off and on all afternoin and night, is lethargic, wont eat, and his third eyelids are showing. The nearest 24 hour vet is over an hour away. Can he wait until morning or no?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am so sorry that Buster is not feeling well. While I would encourage you to have him seen as soon as possible, you know him best. If he seems to be resting quietly, & is not continuously vomiting, then you can wait a bit. If he is still vomiting, have him seen soon as the dehydration & loss of essential electrolytes can be quite detrimental on his body. Do not force any food or water on him, as this may make the vomiting worse. I hope he is feeling better soon. Take care.

Hello. It seems that Cece may have picked up some type of infection. If you can, it would be a good idea to have her seen tomorrow by your veterinarian. Once an appropriate diagnosis is made, the proper treatment can be started to return Cece to health. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cece. I agree that she needs to see a veterinarian. She will be examined and fecal testing will likely be needed. Depending on these results, bloodwork may be discussed as well. From there, medications can be prescribed. If she is dehydrated, her veterinarian will give her fluids. In the meantime, continue to offer her water. Feed her small amounts to help it sit better on her stomach. I hope this information helps!

Hi and thanks for posting! If Haru just vomited one time today, I wouldn't worry too much. However, if the vomiting continues and he is vomiting more frequently, then a veterinary visit would be warranted. I would recommend withholding food from Haru for the rest of the day to give his stomach a break and then slowly reintroduce food to him giving a small amount at a time. Time will tell with this one. Since she's eating, drinking, and not lethargic, you certainly don't need to seek emergency care tonight. If tomorrow she still seems out of sorts, or continues to vomit, I would recommend scheduling a vet appointment for exam and x-rays of her abdomen. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Prince! From your pictures his eyes are a bit more dilated than normal. I am worried about your description of his symptoms. Has he been urinating? How old is he? It is possible that the old treats have caused an upset stop but it is probably a bit unlikely. I highly recommend having him seen today when your Vet opens, especially if you haven't seen him urinate since he started getting sick. Not being able to urinate for male cats is an emergency. Other possibilities are: viral or bacterial infection, toxin ingestion or he ate something causing a blockage. If he is old I would worry about kidney or liver disease and cancer. My cat hasn't eaten in 4 days. Should I wait for his vet appointment?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think it would be ok to wait until tomorrow as long as he is otherwise doing well. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you keep your appointment to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. I do agree that an abdominal ultrasound is the next best step. Treatment would be based on findings. My cat is vomiting, not eating, and lethargic. Is it an emergency?

Poor Moe! From what you're describing here, I'm afraid he sounds quite sick. Vomiting, not eating, and acting lethargic are always very concerning symptoms, especially since he's been sick for 2-3 days now and seems to be getting worse. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without being able to examine him and run some tests. I do think that this sounds like a serious, potentially life-threatening problem that shouldn't wait until tomorrow, so I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic today to be seen. If you're not sure where to go, try calling your regular vet's office - their voicemail message should have contact information for your nearest ER or an on-call doctor for emergencies.
