My cat is vomiting everything. When should I take him to the vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 6 years and 3 months old | 10.5 lbs

My 6 yo cat has been vomiting everything he eats since Sunday afternoon. His behavior has been very normal otherwise. Still wants to eat and drink and play. He was sneezing for a few days before this. He wants to be very close to me like a child that is ill. I switched him to wet food today and he vomit 10 minutes after. Should I be concerned yet? When should I take him to the vet and for what treatment?

I am sorry that Stripes is not feeling well! Cats are very good at hiding signs that they are ill, so even though he has been acting normally, the fact that he has been vomiting a lot and that you indicate he wants to be close to you make me concerned. Vomiting is a non-specific sign of illness in cats (meaning that any sick cat can vomit and it does not point to a specific problem). When you take Stripes to the vet (and please call tomorrow for an appointment), your veterinarian will perform a complete physical exam and likely want to draw blood and sample some urine. I would recommend bringing a stool sample from home for them to look at too). Depending on what the exam reveals, your vet may also advise that x-rays should be taken. Vomiting can occur from many conditions such as kidney disease, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Peaches evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start him on medications to make him feel better. Hello, sorry to hear about Cheeto. I would watch him for continued episodes of vomiting or if he develops any lethargy, decreased appetite or diarrhea. Things we worry about with sudden onset or persistent vomiting in cats include dietary indiscretions, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ingestion of foreign material, obstruction or a mass which is probably the least likely in a young cat. If his vomiting persists or gets worse overnight, or if he develops any other signs then I would definitely bring him to an emergency clinic. You should not attempt to feed him today and then offer boiled chicken and rice tomorrow in the morning. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is very concerning and very abnormal. Vomiting in cats can be caused by primary issues with the gastrointestinal tract, dysfunction of the organs, infection, intolerance to a diet, etc. Either way, this is very concerning and KitKat should be seen by a veterinarian ASAP for examination and potential diagnostics.

Poor Splash! This vomiting could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or pancreatitis. Given that he has been vomiting since Friday morning, it's time to see a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing the vomiting so he can be treated . I would take Splash into a vet now.

Sorry to hear that Ryder isn’t feeling well! If he is hiding, seems painful, is having diarrhea or seems listless/lethargic, take him in. If his attitude is still seems good and the vomiting seems to be slowing down significantly this afternoon it is reasonable to monitor him, but if he does become lethargic, seems painful, is hiding, starts having diarrhea or if he continues to vomit into the evening, please take him in. If you are going to watch him at home, offer small amounts of water at a time frequently, and hold off food until tomorrow morning, unless he is a diabetic. If he does have diabetes, he should go in if he’s been vomiting all day. I hope that is helpful!

Yes, I would have Houdini seen by a vet but it's not an emergency. It's not normal he's been vomiting in the past couple of weeks, and while it could be due to something he ate off the ground, I can't say for certain without seeing him. Certainly there are a number of illnesses that cause vomiting, such as kidney disease and diabetes, and in the beginning stages the cat eats normally or has an increase in appetite. I'd give the vet a call in the morning to make an appointment to have him seen. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My cat is throwing up a lot. What should I do before the vet opens?

Hello, remove any food available to him and just have water available. Bring him to your veterinarian when they open in the morning and look for any potential clothing, toys, or string that he could have eaten and let your veterinarian know if you're suspicious he may have gotten into something. King will most likely require x-rays and bloodwork to check for potential causes of his vomiting. My biggest suspicious is that he could have eaten something that is now stuck in his GI tract.
