My cat is constipated. Can I safely give her olive oil for it?

I don't recommend to do this. Olive could cause significant GI upset. Instead use a product like Laxatone. You may also switch your food to a hair ball formula. I recommend the formula by Royal Canin. daily brushing will also help. If Oliver continues to have problems, have him examined by the veterinarian.

Poor Toby! As a starting point, be sure that Toby is urinating normal volumes in the litter box without straining. The signs of urinary obstructions in male cats strongly mimic those of constipation (straining in the litter box unproductively, vocalizing, vomiting), and urinary obstructions are a life-threatening emergency. If Toby is not urinating normal volumes, go to an emergency vet immediately. Constipation is a relatively common problem in cats. Cats should normally have at least 1 normal (not dry and hard) bowel movement per day, but occasionally, a cat will skip a day. If Toby is truly constipated, make sure he is drinking plenty of water. Try mixing additional water in with his food to assure that he is well hydrated. Dehydration will exacerbate constipation. If he will eat it, you can also try offering him small amounts of canned pure pumpkin to increase his fiber intake. I have never found oils to be overly effective in constipated cats. If the constipation persists, Toby may need to go to his vet for an exam. Some constipated cats require enemas and prescription stool softeners. Use 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of body weight daily. I would give him 1.5 teaspoons daily. So you can mix Wink's food with a 3/4 a teaspoon at each meal if he gets fed twice a day. You can also try canned pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling) on his food to give him more fiber. Give him 1 teaspoon at each meal. I would give Wink either the canned pumpkin purée or the olive oil. If those don't work, and he's still constipated in 24-48 hours, he will need to see a vet, as he may need a laxative or an enema.

Olive oil is safe to give to cats, so a small amount may help, however if there is a severe intestinal obstruction it likely won't clear it. If the oil doesn't help, or the vomiting continues, veterinary care is unfortunately needed, and many emergency clinics are still open for services. Other things to try can include feeding smaller meals more often so that Mama isn't eating a huge amount in one meal, which may help her better keep down what she is eating.

I would recommend having Masha evaluated by her veterinarian. Long haired cats should only have 3-4 hairballs per year. Any more than that can actually indicate gastrointestinal disease. She will likely need bloodwork and possibly an abdominal ultrasound. If he is a medium-sized cat, he can likely get 2 mL by mouth twice daily until his stools are softer. If he does not defecate for longer than 48 hours, he should be seen by a veterinarian right away. Constipation can progress to obstipation, meaning a cat is completely unable to pass the feces. This can lead to rupture of the colon and/or irreversible problems with the colon. I would not suggest using Vaseline or mineral oil for your cat. These products can contain substances that are harmful when ingested. Your vet should have a product similar to the one you've been buying and if not ask them to order Laxatone. I would only recommend giving your cat VET approved medications and supplements. Human doctors and pharmacists may be well intentioned, but they are not familiar with feline anatomy and what could possibly hurt them. ALWAYS talk to your vet first.
