My cat is sick, vomiting, diarrhea, no vet. What medicine can I give?

If this medication was prescribed by your veterinarian and your cat is still vomiting despite the medication then I would seek veterinary care immediately. If the medication was NOT prescribed by your veterinarian then please do not give any more, and take your cat in for evaluation. You do not mention how old the kitty is-any number of issues could be going on. A foreign body obstruction in the intestinal tract, a gastrointestinal infection, dietary indiscretion, a cancerous process, even renal failure can cause the symptoms you have noted. Your cat needs a thorough physical exam and your vet May recommend some diagnostics such as xrays and bloodwork. I hope your kitty feels better soon.

Hi. Imodium is contraindicated in cats. Please don't give otc meds to cats as many are toxic. I would recomend a vet visit if she is not eating, vomiting and diarrhea. She may have parasisites, have ingested toxins, have primary GI disease or any number of other things. Unless prescribed for her I wouldn't recomend the amoxicillin/clavanuate as one of the side effects of this antibiotic can be diarrhea and vomiting. If she was prescribed this, contact her vet as they need to know she is reacting to it. Try offering small amounts of bland chicken and rice. If she can eat and keep it down gradually mix her cat food back in. But if not she needs a vet visit.

Causes of vomiting and diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, he ate something gross. he has something stuck (blockage), pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, food allergy/intolerance, reaction to new food/treat/table food. In an ideal work Max needs a Vet exam, a fecal test for worms and X-rays of his belly. If that is fine then I would deworm him, start an anti-nausea like cerenia (veterinary only) or metoclopramide for the vomiting, metronidazole for the diarrhea and put him on a commercial intestinal diet like Hill's i/d until his stools are normal. If you truly have no access to a Vet. I would deworm him with pyrantel or drontal, change his cat food protein source (chicken to beef or fish to chicken), and start a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora. No, there are no over the counter medication safe for cats. You can add probiotics to the diet as this can help. They can be purchased at your vets or pet store. You may want to talk about adding cobalimine to him also. The B vitamins can be lacking with cats with diarrhea and supplementing that can help.

No, I wouldn't give him any OTC medications because human ones are not appropriate or safe for cats. Because Socks is throwing up often, he should see a vet as this is not normal. In an older cat vomiting combined with still having an appetite can be caused by medical diseases such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or kidney disease to name a few. He should see a vet in the next day or two for a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis. There is no medicine you can safely use over the counter for cats. All you can do is encourage her to keep eating and maybe make her an outside shelter to help keep her warm and safe. You can try to add a feline probiotic to the food to help with diarrhea and try to add a GI or intestinal health formula food to help with the diarrhea also.

If Ginger hasn’t shown much improvement then I think you should take him back in for a recheck appointment. He may need medication to help with nausea and/or xrays may be needed to determine what is causing the nausea. I would not recommend feeding him ginger tea.
