My cat vomited worms after homeopathic dewormer, is it working?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 11 months old

I used homeopet dewomer on Katey. It's been about 4 weeks or longer. He has thrown up 3 times. It looked like fur and some dead worms. Is this a good sign or does he need more treatment? Is this dangerous for my family? He goes to the bathroom outside, we do not have litter in the house. Do you think this product is a good one? It is homeopathic. They said to treat cats every 2 months.

This is not a good sign and indicates that he has a high worm burden. This product, like other homeopathic products, has not actually been tested for efficacy, or safety. This is because it's not actually considered a medication.

However, it's likely safe considering it is likely nothing more than water. Homeopathy has demonstrated (through scientific studies) that is doesn't work and is not recognized as an appropriate treatment option in the medical and veterinary profession. There are much better and effective products available that will rid Katey of him worms. I recommend first taking him to the vet for an exam, because he may have other problems that are causing him to vomit and they will be able to give the most appropriate dewormer for the type of worms he has.

My kitten is throwing up after deworming medicine. What should I do?

Thank toy for submitting your question regarding Dusty. I would contact her veterinarian in the morning to let them know of the vomiting. It is likely due to the deworming medication. It can sometimes cause vomiting as the parasites are being killed. They may send her home with an anti-nausea medication if this is the case. This medication can typically given as an injection by the veterinarian and then tablets to continue at home. I hope this information helps!

My kitten is sick after deworming. Is it worms or another illness?

Poor Frodo! Some cats do vomit during deworming due to the strength of the medication combined with the parasites moving through the GI system. These side effects should only last a few days, so if it's been longer than that, I would be concerned that it could be due to something else, such as a GI illness, a foreign body, or pancreatitis. I recommend withholding food for 12 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Yes - a wormer designed for roundworms is the best option. Be sure to follow all directions as regards minimum age for use (some should not be used before 9weeks etc), correct species and weight and to repeat treatment at the correct frequency. If she is vomiting frequently, a spot on medication may be more useful to ensure she does not vomit the oral treatment before it has time to work. Your vets office can advise on the most appropriate product available in your area

My cat took praziquantel. How fast does it work if she's sick?

It starts killing the worms very quickly, but are you sure that is why she is throwing up? Have you had her examined by a vet to make sure there isn't something else going on, like food allergies, pancreatitis, or an obstruction? I prefer to use topical dewormers like Profender because they absorb into the skin to kill the parasites and I don't have to worry about the cat vomiting up the pill before it has time to work.
