My 4-week-old kitten has worms and trouble pooping. Is HomeoPet safe?

This is not a good sign and indicates that he has a high worm burden. This product, like other homeopathic products, has not actually been tested for efficacy, or safety. This is because it's not actually considered a medication. However, it's likely safe considering it is likely nothing more than water. I recommend first taking him to the vet for an exam, because he may have other problems that are causing him to vomit and they will be able to give the most appropriate dewormer for the type of worms he has. Yes, this product is safe and effective for many different types of worms. The dose depends on the size of the kitten and the size of the tablet. Usually, the packaging of the medication has a dose range on it. Otherwise, you may check on the manufacturers website for this information. With some products, the tablet will be too big to accurately cut down to the size needed for a kitten. If you are having this problem, then it's best to find a dewormer that is labeled for kittens.

It depends on how much blood Tiger may be losing and if this is truly from diarrhea being caused by the parasites. If a diagnosis of parasites was established and you are giving the deworming as instructed by a veterinarian then it would be reasonable to see if this was just a one time episode of bloody stool and to have him examined if it continues. However, if a diagnosis has not been established by a veterinarian, I think it would be best to have a veterinarian look at Tiger as this diarrhea and bloody stools may be unrelated to parasites in which case it is not going to improve with the dewormer. The most commonly used dewormer in kittens is called fenbendazole, and is given for a few cycles based on the life cycles of most intestinal parasites. There are other topical products that also do treat some intestinal parasites, however not all of these products are safe for kittens unless they are over a certain age. The Prosense Dewormer packaging label says for kittens under 6 weeks of age give 1/4 teaspoon per 2.5 lbs and is not recommended for kittens under 2.5 lbs. I would ask your veterinarian for another medication that can be used in small kittens (such as pyrantel). The anti-diarrhea medication from Nutri-Vet is okay to give. Kittens are frequently born with roundworms. This is not uncommon. They get roundworms through their mother during pregnancy and during nursing. I hope this helps!

There are over the counter dewormers, but I recommend getting them seen. The over the counter medications don't always work. And it also depends on the parasite. If you feel the pets have a parasite, getting the checked with a fecal exam at your veterinarian and getting a trusted product would be best. Good luck.

Ideally I would have Mittems checked out by your vet and have a stool sample checked for parasites. If he has roundworms it's also possible he has other parasites or coccidia as they are very common in kittens. An over the counter dewormer such as pyrantel or fenbendazole should be safe to give with Clavamox though.
