My cat has a UTI. How quickly does Clavaseptin start working?

That would depend on the underlying cause. If the UTI is caused by an infection, Clavamox will be effective pretty quickly and in 48 hours you will start to see improvement. If not caused by an infection (but to other cause like urinary crystals or stones for example), Clavamox may be effective for few days but signs will come back. If Milky is having difficulty urinating, I would recommend having her rechecked by the veterinarian to make sure she is not blocked. If she is still having symptoms of a urinary tract infection, I would give it the full course (typically 14-21 days) before rechecking with the veterinarian. I am sorry to hear about your kitty! Usually it will take a few days for the antibiotics to show marked improvement. That being said, urine in the blood if there was a large amount may take a few days more to improve. If her other symptoms (urinary urgency or accidents) are improved I would be less concerned. If at the end of the week she is still having blood I would let your vet know as they may want to check for things like a bladder stone or mass which could be causing bleeding.

Usually at least 48hours are needed to see a substantial improvement with the treatment that was given. As far as you are reporting there is already an improvement though, so resolution of the signs it is expected.

What seems to be UTI in cats are in 99% of the time a condition which is actually a bladder inflammation, it's not an infection and for this reason it is not treated with antibiotics. it is treated with special prescription diet for urinary problems, anti inflammatories and other supplements such as Cystophan. the cause of this condition is usually due to stress, so you might want to check this out as well.

Causes of inappropriate urination with blood are: urinary tract infection, stress cystitis, crystals in the urine, bladder stone, or a bladder tumor. It is likely that Nina has a bacterial UTI but there are many other causes for her issues. With her history of kidney issues she should be examined and a urine sample should be tested before starting her on antibiotics. Using antibiotics inappropriately builds resistance. I recommend taking her to the Vet and trying to not let her urinate for several hours (lock her in a room with out a box) or collect a urine sample to bring with you. If she does have a UTI your Vet can appropriately dose the Clavaseptin and tell you how long based on her specific infection. I wish Nina a speedy recovery!

While I wouldn't say its dangerous to give clavamox and orbax together, I don't recommend that you do that without talking to your vet about doing a urine culture, to identify for certain what bacteria are present and what medications will kill the bacteria. Treating without knowing whether the additional antibiotic is necessary could lead to bacteria becoming resistant to those medications. Ensure that he IS ABLE to urinate and pass urine, as male cats tend to have very small urethras and could get an obstruction in their urethras from inflammation of the tissue and crystalline and mucoid debris in the urine. Occasionally, stones may form in the bladder and can also cause obstruction in the urethra. If your vet didn't do an Xray, you may want to talk to your vet about doing that if the problem persists. For now, if he IS DEFINITELY passing urine, he's eating, and he seems to be feeling ok (not vomiting, etc), ensure he's getting a lot of water to drink--you can switch him to wet food to increase his water intake, and consider a pet water fountain. Keep multiple sources of water available throughout the house as well. If increased water does not help reduce his symptoms after a few more days, take him back to the vet for further workup (possible X-rays, possible urine culture).
