My kitten's eyes are worse after URI eye drops. Allergic reaction?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 22 days old | 3 lbs

Can anyone tell me if it looks like my kitten is having an allergic reaction to the eye drops that she was prescribed for an upper resp infection? I stopped giving them to her yesterday because they looked worse but today they looked even worse so I continued with them, please help!

if you are noticing the eyes are looking worse, I recommend to call the vet asap. It could be an allergic reaction but it could also be a worsening of the viral infection (and the meds have not had enough time to take effect yet). You vet is the best one to advise you in this scenario. I hope Emma starts feeling better quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It could absolutley be the same type of infection in the other eye. Upper respiratory infections and the accompanying eye ulcers are often caused by herpes virus which can suddenly affect the other eye.

Go ahead and apply the antibiotic eye drops in the right eye as prescribed for the left eye.

Herpetic eye ulcers can be persistent so don’t panic if it seems to take a week or two to improve. If it worsens at any time though, see the vet right away.

My kitten has white eye discharge while on URI meds. Should I worry?

Upper respiratory infections are not uncommon in kittens like Smokey. Its also not unusual that they cause eye problems as well. I would advise to start Smokey on 250mg of lysine twice daily. You may be able to find this at a pet store but it is used in humans as well. Otherwise your vet will likely carry it as well. Call the doctor to let her know whats going on. She may have further recommendations. If Smokey's eyes start to get irritated or have a green/yellow discharge, he needs antibiotics for his eyes as well. I hope this helps!

Cat's eyes swollen and bleeding after medication. Allergic reaction?

It looks to me like this guy is not responding well to the current treatment. The red you are seeing in the eyes is not likely to be blood, but instead is very red and swollen conjunctiva. This can make treatment even more difficult, because you can't see the eye. It's important that this gets treated quickly, because these infections can quickly cause severe and permanent damage to the eyes. I would notify the vet that initially prescribed the treatment and ask for alternatives. Personally, I would probably switch the antibiotic and eye medication. I hope that helps.
