Cat still unwell after vet, x-rays clear. Should she get bloodwork?

Hi Pamela, Sometimes basic blood work does not give us all the answers we need. If your vet did not include any treatment, I would recommend contacting them and letting them know that Moxie has continued to do poorly. They may recommend trying fluids or some other medications or may recommend rechecking her temperature and examination, then considering some additional tests. Good luck! If the blood test comes back normal or did come back normal and she is still having issues, I would recommend further diagnostics such as x-rays and / or an abdominal ultrasound. Poor Izzie! It is doubtful that she is still having the side effects of the vaccines this far from when they were given. I am concerned that something else is going on and that this is a huge coincidence. I would talk to your vet to see what type of bloodwork they ran and if it would show why she may be acting this way. Since she got a little better but now feeling awful, I would consider having your vet do another exam. They will be able to run additional blood work, do a urinalysis or even do X-rays if needed. Also, they will be able to assess her hydration to ensure she isn’t dehydrated. There are so many different things that can cause lethargy, decreased appetite, and vomiting, but your vet will be able to narrow down the possibilities and get her started on some meds to help her feel better. Based on what you are describing, I would recommend she be taken back in to be re-evaluated and have further diagnostics or treatment done. Cats can only go so long without eating before developing liver issues, so we are always concerned when cats aren't eating. I would recommend Socks be re-evaluated by her veterinarian, have any further necessary testing done (xrays, bloodwork, ultrasound) to determine what the underlying cause for her issue is, and start any treatment that may be needed to help her feeling back on track. I'm concerned that he could have something serious like cancer causing his symptoms. Unfortunately cancer, depending on the type, doesn't always show abnormalities in blood work. He sounds very sick at the moment, and I think he needs to go back to the vet now for further tests such as x-rays or an ultrasound, and possibly repeat blood work. I would recommend blood work and an abdominal ultrasound. The ultrasound will be able to evaluate the gastrointestinal tract much better and can sometimes find foreign bodies that the x-rays can't. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’m so sorry to hear about Quavo. I would say if he is not improving, it’s time for more testing. Bloodwork and/or X-rays may give us a better idea of what’s going on. X-rays look for things like large heart, severe arthritis, and (heaven forbid) obvious cancer. Bloodwork will indicate kidney and liver function, diabetes, and infection in some cases. I do also agree with treating for pain. Many times pain looks exactly like what you describe so definitely give the pain medication as directed. An arthritis “flare up” can cause pretty debilitating pain and is high on my list if Quavo is 10 or more. Best wishes to you and Quavo!
