My cat won't eat while traveling. Is it okay if he only eats treats?

I am so sorry but thank you for getting out and taking precious with you. One or two days without eating isn't too. If of a deal. Try offering canned and dry and possibly mix a bit of water or chicken broth or tuna juice in to get her to drink. Stick to mostly cat food with tuna or plain white chicken or broth as exceptions. If you can get to a pet store a Feliway collar or diffuser for the room may help calm her. Good luck and I hope Harvey misses us all. You can try a product called Quiet Moments Calm Chews with Melatonin for cats and see if this helps with any anxiety. If this does not work, then you could always speak with the veterinarian about an anti-anxiety medication short term. You can also buy Feliway spray and spray the carrier Kovu will be in to see if this also helps. I hope the move isn't too stressful for you or Kovu! Keep in mind that he may be more vocal just because of your arrival and eating more dry food and not wanting tuna may be just behavioral and not necessarily a bad thing. However, if you notice other signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and/or inappetence, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 56 hours is a long time to go without eating. Now that it is approaching 3 days with little to no food, I would concerned there is something medically wrong that is causing Magin's inappetence. Sometimes stress (coming home from the trip in this case) can be a cause but I would expect that to last for a day or two but not longer than that. I would recommend taking Magin into see his veterinarian for an evaluation and exam so you can find out what is going on. I hope this helps!

It sounds like Buddy was pretty stressed during the trip and it is concerning he didn't eat or drink for two days. When a cat doesn't eat going on 72 hours, they will develop a fatty liver which is fatal without treatment. If he acts like that while camping, I would avoid taking him so he doesn't stop eating for a long period of time and develop a fatty liver. It may be he's fine with it at home because it's a familiar area with normal smells and sounds, but camping is too stressful for him.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oscar. Cats can respond to stress (ie. a boarding stay) with a decrease in appetite. You may want to inquire if he had any vomiting/diarrhea or lack of appetite during his stay. Continue to hand feed him. If his appetite does not return, consult his veterinarian if you can try another diet versus having him seen for an appointment. I hope this information helps!

Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Stormi. This may very well still be an adjustment peroid for her. You can try warming her food a bit, & even hand feeding her until she seems more secure in her surroundings. You should also be very careful in the number of treats & amount of human food you are giving her. Dogs very rarely will starve themselves unless there is a medical reason for the loss of appetite, but it is easy to satisfy a small dog with even a few extra treats each day.
