Why is my cat not eating after boarding? Is he bored with food?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Echo. Has she been checked for a respiratory tract infection as this is common after a boarding stay? If this is not the case, then I recommend that she has blood and urine testing if her exam findings do not give a diagnosis for her loss of appetite. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Without seeing Alyssa it’s hard to say what’s going on. It could be stress from being at the boarding facility. Sometimes cats don’t eat well when they are out of their element. Also, stress can cause diarrhea. If the diarrhea lasts longer than 24 hours, I would recommend taking her to a vet to make sure nothing else is going on, like intestinal parasites or a bacterial infection. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 56 hours is a long time to go without eating. Now that it is approaching 3 days with little to no food, I would concerned there is something medically wrong that is causing Magin's inappetence. Sometimes stress (coming home from the trip in this case) can be a cause but I would expect that to last for a day or two but not longer than that. I would recommend taking Magin into see his veterinarian for an evaluation and exam so you can find out what is going on. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mr. Fluffy! I am curious on how old Mr. Fluffy is. If he hasn't eaten well while you were gone either because he was scared or because he is suffering from a medical condition he needs to see a Vet. Cats can not go longer than 3-5 days with out eating before getting even sicker from fatty liver disease. I would take Mr. Fluffy to the emergency room today or as soon as your Vet opens Monday to have an exam and blood work ran. Check the whites of his eyes and if the whites look yellow he should go to the emergency room today. I hope this helps and I wish Mr. Fluffy a speedy recovery!

Keep in mind that he may be more vocal just because of your arrival and eating more dry food and not wanting tuna may be just behavioral and not necessarily a bad thing. However, if you notice other signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and/or inappetence, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes, Dusty will be OK even if he only eats a few bites of food for a day or two. Cats can be picky when they are stressed or anxious because of a new environment, so I would not be concerned if he is not a great eater while you are traveling. I do not recommend altering his diet too much just to get him to eat, because this can cause some GI upset and lead to diarrhea or vomiting. I recommend trying to get him to eat his regular food, and if he is not interested, offering him a few treats and plenty of water. I hope this is helpful - best of luck traveling with Dusty!

Some cats are just very into food and enjoy eating it. If Jambo is eating so fast he vomits, you may want to break up his meals into smaller amounts so he can't eat enough at once to get sick. If he's being boarded, he may also be feeling a bit stressed out which could be causing the strange behavior and vocalizations. I would bring it up with his owner when they return that he has been a bit nervous, and any other signs you noticed. The owners can bring Jambo to a vet for a full checkup if there is anything out of the ordinary for him.
