How to help my anxious cat eat & use litter box after travel?

Cats are rarely impressed by travelling and it can cause much anxiety. Calming supplements or royal canin calm food can be very helpful, as can pheromone products. Familiar food, toys and bedding are helpful also

You can try a product called Quiet Moments Calm Chews with Melatonin for cats and see if this helps with any anxiety. If this does not work, then you could always speak with the veterinarian about an anti-anxiety medication short term. You can also buy Feliway spray and spray the carrier Kovu will be in to see if this also helps. I hope the move isn't too stressful for you or Kovu! Lovely Mars! You cold try with Zylkene (check the website: http://www.zylkenepet.co.uk) but if she refuses to eat is quite difficult to administer without pilling her and increase her distress. Try to offer nice and smelly food, her favorite, to encourage Mars to come out from the create. Create a cosy environment (a small rooms is ideal) where she can feel safe without people getting in and out or strong noises. If the problem persist I would have a chat with a veterinarian expert in behavior that will be happy to provide an home visit. Please post again on the forum for further advices. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes, Dusty will be OK even if he only eats a few bites of food for a day or two. Cats can be picky when they are stressed or anxious because of a new environment, so I would not be concerned if he is not a great eater while you are traveling. I do not recommend altering his diet too much just to get him to eat, because this can cause some GI upset and lead to diarrhea or vomiting. I recommend trying to get him to eat his regular food, and if he is not interested, offering him a few treats and plenty of water. I hope this is helpful - best of luck traveling with Dusty!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You may consider placing him in a separate area from the other cats for a few days with his regular food and water. Try the calming collar and the Feliway Spray (or the room plug ins work well too). You can also softened the food (or try a can of wet food) and heat it up a bit to bring out the flavor to entice him to eat a bit. If he still doesn't eat, there may be a medical reason why he is not eating and it may be a good idea for Oakley to see his veterinarian for an evaluation soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is somewhat expected to some extent though it is important to make sure she is drinking water so she does not get dehydrated. I would encourage her to drink and you may get more than 1 litter box to encourage her to use it. If she does not improve within 2-3 days, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment in case there is something else going on. Best of luck!
