My 6-month-old cat is throwing up and has liquid stool. What to do?

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. A loose stool & vomiting together can quickly lead to a pet becoming dehydrated. In addition, I would guess that Nesta is not eating well, & a cat that stops eating for even a few days can actually begin to develop some liver issues. So yes, Nesta should be evaluated by your veterinarian. Hopefully he will be feeling better soon. Take care.

Whenever a kitten has both vomiting and soft stool, they are considered too sick for a home remedy. The best thing to do for him is to take him into a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

I recommend taking Stewie to the veterinarian to make sure he is ok. This may be a virus but it can also be intestinal parasites. I would bring a stool sample when taking him to the vet for check for parasites. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Hello. Thank you for rescuing this kitten. I would be most concerned about this kitten having an infection & most certainly having a large number of parasites it its gut. Roundworms are especially common in kittens & can cause significant discomfort & diarrhea. It would be best to have the kitten seen as soon as possible as she may need some medical treatment to get her going on the right track. Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Kalvin evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. I would recommend switching to a different food such as a hydrolyzed protein diet and feed this for the next 4 weeks to see if this makes a difference. I would also add in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online or at your local pet store. If the vomiting persists or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Vomiting can be observed with gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity, foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I am concerned that she is becoming dehydrated. I do not think this is because of the fish. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
