My cat keeps throwing up food. Is it due to our recent move?

Many cats develop signs of mild gastroenteritis once they change the owner. It is usually related to stress in the completely new environment and new food that is often introduced at the time of moving house. If it was only one vomit this morning, and Ghost is looking comfortable and has good appetite, you just need to monitor him at home. Ideally, he should be fed, at least for the next few days, the same food he was fed by the previous owners. If you like to change the food to something new, it should be slowly introduced to Ghost, mixed with his current food for the first few days. Common causes of vomiting in cats includes hairballs, food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, intestinal lymphoma, hyperthyroidism, systemic disease (liver, kidney, pancreas, diabetes), among others. You can remove her food and wait 6-12 hours to see if the vomiting stops. Then only give her small amounts of her food. If the vomiting continues tomorrow, Mochi should get checked out by her vet.

Consider having Cinder examined by your veterinarian to diagnose medical causes for the vomiting. Vomiting is a very non specific symptom having multiple causes. It may also be due to the stress of a new environment. Pheromone products such as Feliway spray or plug in diffuser may decrease any anxiety. You can feed smaller amounts of food more frequently to see if that helps decrease vomiting episodes. A 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts may also be used to manage symptoms. Your veterinarian can dispense anti-emetics if indicated.

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many different reasons why cats will vomit periodically. It could be an allergy or sensitivity to the food, to inflammation anywhere in the GI tract, pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease, and many more. These cases can be extremely frustrating and take lots of testing to figure out because of this. The first thing I recommend is screening blood work to look for organ dysfunction that could lead to vomiting. In the vast majority of cats who are acting normal other than the vomiting, the blood work is usually normal. X-rays are also performed to look for any obvious change in organ shape or size and to look for obstruction, masses, etc. Beyond that, the testing gets more involved and typically involves an abdominal ultrasound. Sometime this can give you an answer. Other times the only way to confirm a diagnosis is through biopsies of the affected organs. The other thing that is commonly recommended is a change in diet. If there is an ingredient that she is sensitive to, we want to try to eliminate it from her diet. This is best done with a prescription diet because over-the-counter diets can be contaminated with ingredients that are not on the label. Food trials need to be done for at least 6 to 8 weeks and they can't eat anything else during this time. If the vomiting resolves with the new diet, I recommend keeping her on that diet long-term.

Then let the other cat in Simba's room while he is in a cat carrier. They can smell each other, but not be in contact. If either becomes upset or show signs of aggression, remove the second cat from the room, and try again later. Praise them when they interact appropriately. When they are interacting well with each other through the carrier, you can let Simba out of his room, and see how he interacts with the other cat. I would get a cat tree with lots of shelves to give the cats vertical space to get away from each other. I would keep Simba in his room when you go out until they are comfortable with each other.

Eating too fast is not a common reason for vomiting in cats, despite the fact that you can find this misleading information over the internet too often. chronic vomiting in cats is almost always a sign of a medical problem, the most common conditions causing this are pancreatitis, IBD and lymphoma. another common condition is kidney failure but it is not common at this age. i would recommend taking Arlo to the vet in order to get it checked and treated ASAP.

I’m so sorry you’ve been through so much lately. If Barack is throwing up, it could be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, sudden change in diet, or pancreatitis. The lady who has him now should take him into a vet right away. Best of luck.
