Why is my neutered cat throwing up with diarrhea after antibiotics?

Is he still on the antibiotics? If so maybe you could call and request a different medication? If he is no longer taking the medication and he is still vomiting then she should have a follow up appointment. It is possible that it is just coincidental with the neutering and he could have a foreign body in his stomach, or a parasite causing him to vomit. They may want to do an x-ray and/or some blood work. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

It is possible that he could have had a reaction to the anesthesia or just the stress of being neutered. Or it could be completely coincidental and it could be secondary to something else like parasites, foreign body, a sudden change in food, pancreatitis, an underlying infection, and much more. I would try to feed him some plain boiled boneless and skinless chicken and white rice. I would also try to start him on some probiotics. Your vet should be able to provide these or give you some recommendations. You can try some plain sugar free yogurt but the probiotics in this isn't as good as the cat probiotics because we have different bacteria in our gut than in cats. The next step should be to have him re-examined and likely have some bloodwork done. I would also make sure the vet has ruled out an parasites including giardia which is difficult to find on a regular fecal test. If your vet doesn't think there is a foreign body, they will be able to provide him with a good anti-nausea medicine to help with the vomiting. I hope this helps!

Antibiotics can cause GI upset in cats, so it could be that Korben Dallas was eating less while he was on the antibiotics. Now that he's off the antibiotics, he's feeling better and eating much more quickly. That would be why he's throwing up all of his food. I would try to feed him smaller amounts more frequently to have him slow down his eating. If that doesn't help with the vomiting, I would take him into the vet for an exam, as he could have a medical illness causing the vomiting.

I would recommend seeing the vet. At this point even if the diarrhea was initially related to the antibiotics Jasper may now have a disruption of his normal intestinal flora that requires additional treatment. It's also possible that the diarrhea is unrelated to the antibiotics and instead is due to intestinal parasites or a food sensitivity. If you wait until he stops eating or loses weight he may require more intensive treatment so I'd recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian this week.

How lovely of you to take in Figaro and give him a good home. He did have surgery recently so he will still be recovering from that, which may be why he's more lethargic than usual. It's good that he's eating and drinking, and I would be really concerned about him if he wasn't eating or drinking. One of the side effects of antibiotics can be diarrhea, so that may be the cause of it. I would try feeding him a bland diet to see if that helps his stomach. I would give him boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day. Feed him this for a couple of days and if the diarrhea clears up, slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he stops eating or drinking, or the lethargy continues over the next 48 hours, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet for a check up. Yes the medications (anesthetics and antibiotics if used) can cause digestive upsets fater surgery. Bland, small low fat meals fed little and often and a probioitc such as fortiflora can help. If he is weak and unwell you should have him checled by your vet to rule out a fever or infection of the wound

If the vomiting has been occurring for months, I would advise that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian. There are many causes of vomiting including worms/parasites in the intestines, dietary indiscretion (eating things he is not supposed to eat), dietary intolerance/sensitivity, hairballs, infection/inflammation, foreign bodies, hairballs, problems with internal organs, etc. Your veterinarian can assess Frankie and then formulate a diagnostic plan which might include physical exam, intestinal worm exam, blood tests, and possibly some imaging studies like x-ray, ultrasound, or endoscopy (a special scope with a camera on it). Once a diagnosis is made a treatment plan can be made. I hope Frankie gets better soon.
