My unneutered cat's testicles are red and irritated. What's wrong?

It's a little irritated/inflamed but nothing out of the ordinary, especially if Smokey has been neutered in the past few days. just keep an eye on it, i would think it should look much better within a few days from now, if it doesn't -take him back to your vet to get it checked.

Poor Ninja! It sounds like he has some type of infection in this area, since it's red and has pus coming out. He will need an antibiotic to treat the infection, so I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can examine the area to see exactly what's going on, and will also prescribe an antibiotic and possibly an anti-inflammatory or other medication to treat the problem if needed.

When a cat licks or chews his testicles it is usually because they either itch or hurt So there is a possibility that he has a testicular inflammation (orchitis), or an infection. You should keep him from licking his testicles (best by putting an e-collar around his neck so he cannot reach his testicles) nd make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam. This may be quite painful and he will likely need pain medicine and antibiotics to clear this up.

The picture is difficult to make out, but it almost looks like a piece of body tissue hanging out. Was he recently neutered? If so I would recommend having a follow up appointment with your veterinarian to see if there is any infection or problem at the neuter site. Good luck and I hope he is back to normal soon.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to say what is going on from the attached pictures. It looks like some form of trauma or infected wound. You can try and clean it twice a day with 4% chlorhexidine solution (available at pharmacies). However, if the testicle is swollen or is painful to Batman, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

It could just be scar tissue but I would strongly recommend to have your vet just take a peak at them . Your vet will be able to palpate them to ensure there isn't any infection in that area and ensure he doesn't need any antibiotics. I cannot say for sure if they are okay with just a picture. I'm sorry to hear of your concerns with Milo. It does look like he has a scab on his scrotum. It is possible that he had an injury to the area, a reaction to sutures if they were used during his neuter procedure or an infection that is beginning to heal. If he continues to rub at the area, the scab is not going away or if you notice any redness or drainage, I would recommend that you have him seen by your veterinarian.
