Why does my unneutered cat have a lump or wound on his testicles?

Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). The different problems may be all related to a neurological disease affecting back legs and anal/perianal nerves. Diarrhoea can be caused by the lack of control over bowel transit.

When a cat licks or chews his testicles it is usually because they either itch or hurt So there is a possibility that he has a testicular inflammation (orchitis), or an infection. You should keep him from licking his testicles (best by putting an e-collar around his neck so he cannot reach his testicles) nd make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam. This may be quite painful and he will likely need pain medicine and antibiotics to clear this up.

If this is a severe rash then I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Simba so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If this is just a small amount of redness then I would recommend using a steroid spray such as Well and Good Hydrocortisone Spray (can find at Petco) along with using Sentry wound ointment (also found at Petco) and see if this helps. Poor Ninja! It sounds like he has some type of infection in this area, since it's red and has pus coming out. He will need an antibiotic to treat the infection, so I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can examine the area to see exactly what's going on, and will also prescribe an antibiotic and possibly an anti-inflammatory or other medication to treat the problem if needed.

I have accidentally cut my own cat removing matts, I felt terrible! The area does look swollen, which doesn't appear normal. I would take him back into the vet to have this looked at. Best of luck.

Judging from the picture, this could be a ruptured abscess or secondary to self trauma from him scratching at the area. I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. He will need the hair clipped from around the wound and the wound cleaned. There is a possibility that this skin defect can be closed but that depends on an examination and if it makes sense clinically. This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
