My cat has a swollen chin but is otherwise normal. Should I worry?

As long as the skin is intact and the area is not painful to touch and is not getting more swollen, you should monitor Wonky at home. I suspect the missing fur could be self-inflicted from scratching or it is an abrasion from trauma. In this case, Wonky will just need some time for the fur to grow back. However, if the neck becomes painful, swollen, hot to touch you should take Wonky to your local vets for an appointment as the symptoms would suggest trauma to the deeper structures of the neck or a growing abscess.

It is swollen but I would not say it's an emergency situation. As long as he is eating and drinking normally, you don't need to rush him into a vet asap but he should see one in the next few days. It could be an allergic reaction or result of trauma (for example if Otto bumped into something). Allergic reactions could be tn anything Otto is in frequent contact with. Allergic swelling on the chin could be caused by an allergy to food bowls, floors, chemicals that you use to clean floors and carpets. If the chin is not swollen, not painful and not bothering Otto at all, I would leave it for 1-2 days. You could give him half of a tablet of human Piriton to help the swelling to go down. However, if the chin is bothering Otto or if he is trying to scratch it, you should take him to your local vet for a check-up

Puncture or bite wounds can get infected rather quickly and result in a fever which may be why he is not eating. They can form abscesses that require local treatment and antibiotics. Facial swelling can be caused by an allergic reaction to something such as an insect sting or spider bite, an abscess from an injury, or even an abscessed tooth (unlikely in such a young cat). I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Depending on what the diagnosis is will determine what medications are recommended. It's hard to say what is going on without seeing it in person. It could be a sting, or it could be an infected tooth, mass in the mouth, an inflammatory condition in the gums, a tumor, etc. I would recommend that you have Shades examined by a vet to determine what is going on and what treatment it may need.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Korra. I recommend that she sees a veterinarian as soon as you are able. The lip is swollen and possibly ulcerated. This is likely uncomfortable for her. The veterinarian will examine her especially looking inside the the mouth. She could have further wounds in her mouth or even a bad tooth. Treatment will be started based on these findings. I do not believe an over-the-counter medication will help. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications either as they are toxic to cats.
