My new cat has a swollen bump under its chin. Is a vet visit urgent?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

It feels like one of my cats neck glands is swollen, theres a very noticable bump under his chin/neck, the other gland doesnt appear inflamed, should i take him to the vet immediately? his behaviour did seem slightly off but i might just be seeing that now I've noticed the bump. hes only just been adopted 5 days ago and hes an indoor cat, 6-8 months old

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Goose. Yes, I do recommend that he sees a veterinarian. He could have an enlarged lymph node, a problem with a salivary gland or even an abscess. His veterinarian will perform an examination and then will likely use a small needle to collect a sample of cells from the swelling. These cells are then evaluated under the microscope to give a diagnosis. I hope this information helps!
