My cat has a swollen lump on his neck. Should I see a vet?

Poor Little Bit! If it's his lymph nodes that are swollen, he could have an infection in that area causing the swelling. It could also be a virus, immune mediated disease, allergies, and even cancer though that would be rare in a cat his age. This is something that needs to be checked out by the vet, so give his vet a call now to make him an appointment. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You could be referring to an enlarged lymph node, a mass or even an abscess. I recommend that you have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. How this is approached, will depend heavily on the diagnosis. Good luck and have a great day!

If he goes outside it could be an abscess from being bitten by another cat during a fight. You didn’t indicate his age but a tooth root abscess or a tumor is also possible. I would have Smokey seen by your Vet so they can evaluate the swelling. Abscesses are treated by lancing and flushing the wound and prescribing antibiotics. If they suspect an infected tooth he will need a dental and the tooth extracted.

Hi. This sounds like it may be an abscess, or even an inflamed lymph node from an infection. These don't always cause pain or irritation. Pets though are good at not showing pain. So even though we think they aren't painful, they could be. So, I would get little Sage checked out to be sure all is ok and get treatment if it is an abscess.

Swollen glands can be due to a number of things, sometimes they are reacting to an infection, sometimes they swell for no real reason and sometimes it is a cancer called lymphoma. In Albert's case I would not be overly worried as he is so young, but I would definitely have him checked as the vet will know better how much swrlling is significant. He may have an infection that needs treated or the vet may want to sample the lump to get a definite diagnosis.

My cat has a small, painless lump on their neck. What should I do?

That can indicate an infection or a dental problem. Other possibilities include a cyst, an abscess, a lipoma, or a benign growth. Why does my cat have an itchy neck lump? Should I see a vet?

An itchy lump on the neck could be due to an infection in the skin. They can get abscesses if something gets stuck in the skin, or he get bitten. It could also be a type of tumor. Mast cell tumors can be itchy, but are not as commonly seen with cats. Other causes of lumps in the neck could be an enlarged lymph node, enlarged thyroid gland and different types of cysts. However, none of these causes tend to be itchy. It's best if you have a vet examine him to ensure he does not have signs of the more serious causes. Usually we can find out the cause of these lumps on exam with minimal testing. It will be well worth getting it diagnosed sooner rather than later. It's not an emergency, but would be best to have her seen within the next week. I hope that helps and Skippy gets better soon.

My cat is sick, not eating, and has a neck lump. Should I worry?

A huge lump on his neck could be an abscess, a blicked salivary duct, inflamed or infected salivary gland, a cyst, a tumor, or a swollen lymph node. This needs to be examined by your veterinarian who will likely want to take a bit of tissue or check if and what kind of fluid is in the lump. He will do this with a very thin needle (painless) to determine what kind of mass or lump there is. Not eating is dangerous for a cat as this can cause liver disease in cats in addition to the original cause. Please take your kitty to a veterinarian for an exam today.

My cat's neck lump keeps swelling but has no pain. What should I do?

Smok is a very handsome boy! See what you mean about this lump. It could be an abscess, it could be a cyst, it could be a lymph node swelling due to infection, or it could be related to a dental problem. It is concerning that is has kept on swelling for the past three days, and now is the time to take him into the vet. The vet is the best person to diagnose what is causing this swelling so it can be treated appropriately. I would take Smok into the vet first thing in the morning. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I cannot tell where the lump is on the photo but most if not all lumps needs to be evaluated by a vet. Especially in Simba's case since the lump has gotten swollen. Your vet will perform a full physical exam and determine if the lump needs to be aspirated. Lumps can be anything from an abscess, mass/growth, hernia etc. Your vet will determine after an exam what the next best steps and treatments are. Good luck!
