My cat has sticky discharge above his lip, but no cold. What is it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 11 months old

Indoor cat only, sticky clear discharge above his lip. Not sure if it’s nose related, no other signs of cold.

I can't really get a good idea from the photos what may be going on. The sticky discharge could be coming from the nose, the mouth or perhaps he put his muzzle in something sticky. Gently clean off the area and try to determine the source of the discharge. Also try to note if you are seeing any signs of an upper respiratory tract infection. Here is a helpful link:

Dental disease may be a little bit more difficult to determine because you have to look in the mouth. If you are unsure of the cause, if it gets worse or if it continues beyond 48hours, I recommend to have Soxy examined by the veterinarian. It's always best to play it safe.
