My cat has sticky discharge above his lip, but no cold. What is it?

This discharge could be coming primarily from the mouth or any of the associated anatomic structures and it is not possible to know exactly without an examination. This could certainly be due to an infection for example. It does appear that she is uncomfortable. How this is managed really depends on what actually is going on. For that reason, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to diagnose this and proceed with therapy accordingly. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sully. The area around his lips could be a mild case of feline acne. The area near the ear can be seen if with an ear infection. If the ears are itchy, the cat will scratch. This can cause wounds and debris near the canal opening. He will need to see his veterinarian to have an examination. The ear canals curve deep into the skull. So a special instrument is needed to look inside. If an infection is suspected, a swab is typically taken from each ear canal and evaluated under the microscope. I hope this information helps!

Hello. This does sound like an upper respiratory infection. Most of these are viruses & run their course over several weeks. If Nancy is eating well, there is probably not much you need to do except keep her warm & feed her well. Hello. It sounds like your poor kitty is unwell. This could be anything from an upper respiratory infection to some dental issues, such as an infected or abscessed tooth. Most of these things are just too complicated to try & deal with at home, especially if antibiotics are needed. Excessive discharge and crusty nose as well may be due to an upper respiratory tract infection possibly due to a viral infection. These infections can be quite severe and cause superficial keratitis when they affect the cornea as well. That may be the reason for the cloudy appearance of the left eye. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. Hi there and thank you for posting the pictures. Allergies could most certainly be related. However the spots in the nose make me suspicious that he could’ve developing a skin infection (which are also commonly associated with allergies). If the spots on the nose don’t resolve soon, or if they become more numerous then I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Porfirio looks pretty sick. The lesions on his mouth may be infected ulcers from a virus, allergic reaction or dental disease. The eyes being swollen could also be related to a virus or significant inflammation in the area. I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian today if possible as I be he is in discomfort- think about when your sinuses have a lot of pressure. He will likely get treatment for a bacterial infection and possible viral as well. I hope this points you in the right direction. Please post again with any further questions.
