My cat's had heat cycles. Is spaying still important for her?

You should get her spayed, no questions about it, there is no high risk in having that surgery done at her age, she is still very young and it is a very simple surgery. cats are in very high risks of mammary gland tumors if they are not spayed and this condition is almost always fatal.

In dogs getting them spayed before too many heat cycles lowers the likelihood that they develop mammary cancer. When you say Layla is in heat, are you seeing discharge from her vulva? or is she vocal and behaviorally acting like she is in heat? If she is having discharge I would get her checked for an infected uterus. If no discharge there could be a metabolic condition, like hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) that can cause increased vocalization. I don't think any of the above is related to the mammary tumors. Good on you for vaccinating her! I would get the chlamydia vaccine as soon as possible for her as it's highly contagious. You can do it as soon as two weeks after the rabies vaccine.
