When should I spay or neuter my cat, and do spayed females menstruate?

Therefore, a spayed female cat should not have the desire to mate and will not come into heat any longer for the duration of her life. However, if the surgery was not performed properly and a small amount of ovarian tissue is left, then it is possible she could experience estrus, although this is very rare. I would recommend that she is neutered for medical reason, first the high risk of developing mammary cancer which is malignant in cats and second uterus cancer and/or possible uterus infection. She would have to be in heat in order to accept the male and get pregnant, but you should be aware that this can happen anytime now. It's important to have her spayed prior to her coming into heat, because the procedure is more risky when they are in heat. They also tend to fight with other cats when they are in heat, which can increase their chances of getting serious infections and contracting FIV and/or FeLV. Yes, she will because female cats ovulate just when they mate, so the chances of her getting pregnant when mating is close to 100%. The way to prevent pregnancy is to have her spayed, if not keep her indoors and spay any males that could come in contact with her. Male surgery is normally less invasive and cheaper and perhaps something to consider if kittens are newborns.In 6 weeks time you could have her neutered. She could also be neutered sooner if really necessary, but it is a bit more risky in terms of surgery for herself and for the kittens. Hope this helps !

Male cats don't technically go into heat (that is more a female thing). They do however, become sexually mature around 6 months of age which means they are now interested in mating and can actually impregnate a female. Cats can be neutered as early as 8 weeks of age but most vets wait until at least 4 months of age. Yuki is definitely old enough to be neutered and based on his behavior you described I would do it soon. There is no male "heat" cycle so he can be neutered anytime now. Whether or not the vaccines should be done before or after is up to your vet. Some vets require the vaccines to be up to date before they will do surgery so ask your vet about that. Hope this helps.
