My cat had a stillborn kitten. What if she's not having more?

My cat gave birth to a still Born kitten at about 4 am but hasn't had any more since she is not distressed what should I do

A vet visit is always recommended in these cases so that is my suggestion - get her to a vet for an exam. If you don't want to take her to the vet just yet then monitor her closely for any signs of illness (not eating/drinking, lethargy, vomiting, hiding, etc). If you notice anything abnormal, then get her to the vet ASAP. She may have only had one kitten - there may not be any others.

Please consider having her spayed as soon as you can. If they have stillborns they will usually continue to do so.

Hi. She will need an exam and x-rays to know if there are more kittens. It would be rare for a cat to have only 1 kitten, so I am worried there are more in there. And after that long, they are most likely deceased as well. If those stay in, Kara will get very very sick and it will become critical. Good luck.

It is possible that she only had 1 kitten, but cats usually have larger litters. If you are concerned that there could still be kittens inside, I would recommend that you take Midnight to the vet for an x-ray to confirm that there are no more kittens inside. If she seems comfortable and is eating/drinking/nursing well, you could just watch and make sure she continues to act normally.

The best way to know for certain if there are any more kittens would be to have an x-ray taken of your cat’s abdomen. However, cats tend to be pretty good at laboring and most don’t require intervention, so chances are she just has the one kitten. If you would like some peace of mind, I’d recommend taking her in to the vet where they can confirm there are no more kittens inside her - but if she’s acting normal, eating, drinking, and caring for her kitten, chances are she’s doing fine. Very small or young cat having their first litter can have difficulty giving birth and sometimes a kitten cannot be born and can cause sepsis in a cat as it decays in the uterus.

It could be that Shiver has more kittens that still need to be born, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. It's concerning that three have been stillborn, and I would be worried there's something wrong and she needs help giving birth. My advice is to take her into a vet immediately to be checked out. My cat had a stillborn kitten, but no placenta. What should I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The placenta can be passed before, after or with the kitten. Sometimes animals eat the placenta before we notice. I would assume it passed. If she isn't eating, lethargic or has a fever she should be seen by a Vet. I highly recommend doing so regardless to see how many more kittens are left and discuss spaying her in the next 4-6 weeks before she comes in to heat again. I wish you the best!

The only way to know if she has any other kittens inside her is to take her to a vet and have an x-ray done. I strongly suggest you do this. If there is a dead kitten (or more than one) still inside her she will get extremely sick and die. Please get her to a vet as soon as possible.

No, it is not normal for a cat to have that many stillborns. Having them on different days is not that unusual. Stillbirths usually happen from a virus or some other infection; especially common if the cat has not been vaccinated. I recommend you have Mira seen by a vet immediately in case she has any more kittens stuck in her birth canal, or in case she has an infection in her uterus. If either of these are the case, they could be life threatening. If not, then the vet can help determine if she needs further care for whatever else may be going on with her.
