Why did my cat's side briefly give out, then he ate and recovered?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Jack. As you probably ready have experienced, neurologic disease is unpredictable in pets. There is no way to know if or when he will regain control of his body. However, he needs to see a veterinarian. He needs a thorough examination to assess to extend of his neurological problems. He needs to be able to breathe normally, eat and drink and go to the bathroom. Cats can have blood clots that can affect one limb. He needs to be checked for adequate circulation. There may be medications that can help him feel better. I hope this information helps!

That sounds scary! Henry needs to be examined by his veterinarian within the next 24 hours. Symptoms like this can be a few things but syncope and seizures are most common. Syncope is a sign of a bad heart. Pets can have seizures for many reasons including liver disease, idiopathic, electrolyte imbalance, infections, inner ear problems, cancer or epilepsy. He will need a physical exam and bloodwork to begin to narrow down and appropriately address the cause. Seizures are serious and are best addressed early. It could be an idiopathic seizure, meaning there is no known cause. There is a potential it could happen again, so I do think he should see a vet as soon as possible to get checked out, taking him into an ER vet tonight if you can. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Seizures can occur due to many reasons that go from a toxicity, metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases and even tumors. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Diagnostics that will be recommended will include bloodwork and advanced imaging such as an MRI. This sounds very much like a seizure.Poor guy. I would try to keep him in a quiet, cozy room for tonight and try not stimulate him any more than necessary until his morning appointment. Sometimes seizures can be exacerbated by stress, so its best to keep him stress free until further testing in the morning. If you do witness another episode like this, then its really valuable to record it so that you can show your veterinarian. I hope that your fur baby Watson will be ok. If he has another seizure that seems to last more than 3-5 minutes, then its really best to take him to the ER vet instead of waiting til morning to get emergency medicine to stop the seizure and hopefully avoid permanent brain damage. There is a possibility that your kitty had a seizure, or fell unconscious due to a heart condition. When you were cuddling with him, he got really excited which could have triggered a seizure or a syncope (unconsciousness due to not enough oxygen getting to the brain). I strongly suggest you have Scooter examined by your veterinarian.

It sounds like the cat may have had a seizure. If he is acting fine at the moment I think it will be okay to wait. They will most likely want to run a full workup on him. Bloodwork and X-rays. Good luck!!
