My cat is sick and can't move after eating raw fish. What's wrong?

Poor kitty. If he is only receiving meat in his diet he stands a good chance of suffering from Taurine deficiency, which can cause heart failure. He needs to be seen by your vet right away for testing and treatment depending on the underlying issue. Other possible causes for his vomiting and lethargy are underlying congenital kidney disorder, pancreatitis or simply salmonella poisoning from eating raw meat. Both the fish and the heat could be bothering Koshka. I'd still take her into the vet today anyway to get checked out, it's always important to have a cat checked out when they are having both vomiting and diarrhea. Best of luck.

Yes, it is possible that raw chicken could have made Pishu this sick, and that's why it's never recommended to feed your pet raw meat. It sounds like she is quite ill, and I would take Pishu into a vet right away for treatment.

His gums don't look tremendously pale, but the lethargy and discomfort you describe is concerning, and yes, I would take him in. It's hard to say whether the bones could have caused a complete GI blockage, but if he's not defecating at all (or urinating???) then that is a potential concern. Even a serious case of gastroenteritis secondary to eating fish and bones is extremely uncomfortable, and warrants treatment. I would take him in ASAP.

Listlessness and lethargy in an older cat could be due to acute renal failure, metabolic disease, pancreatitis (possibly secondary to the sardines) or even neoplasia. Since this is an acute event, it is important to get The Fruits checked out by a veterinarian since blood work abnormalities can come on very suddenly. Please do not give your cat sodium chloride fluid since this could impact the kidneys, especially when there is a possibility of acute kidney disease. Your veterinarian will be able to advise you whether or not fluid administration is appropriate depending on the underlying disease process and if so, what fluid and in what amounts would be suitable.

If he had the fish over 1-1.5hrs ago, making him vomit will not be beneficial. In that case, you need to monitor him at home for signs of vomiting, diarrhea, blood in stools, abdominal pain, twitching, being unsteady on legs. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should take him to your local vets right away.

Hi there. Sorry about what's happened to your poor kitties, especially Axel. It sounds like something to do with the food, I agree with you. Every now and then a bag will spoil or have a tiny hole in it or something while it's stored and mice and things can get in there and make a mess. This can lead to bacterial overgrowth or fermenting of the food which can make your animals sick. If you ever heard of certain products being recalled (especially for babies) pet food is no exception. Make sure there isn't a recall on what you're currently feeding. Give a call to your pet food company as well. Sometimes they have insight beyond this and often will replace the bag of food for you. If Axel is still actively vomiting it would probably be best to have him seen by your veterinarian-if he has ingested spoiled food he can become quite ill, as some animals are more sensitive than others. Your doctor can give him something for nausea and keep him hydrated with subcutaneous or iv fluids. I hope this helps you! I hope he feels better soon!
