My cat ate fish bones, is lethargic. Should I see an emergency vet?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 16 lbs

I think my cat got into fish bones outside on Sun night. He's been laying in one spot only getting up to switch sides occasionally since Mon. Not interested in eating but has taken some wet food w/water and ate a whole jar of chicken baby food a few minutes ago. No vomiting, no litter box (at least not yesterday or today, Wed), just seems miserable. Gums are a pale pink. Too pale? Only one local vet who doesn't take C. C. Will he be okay? Or do I need to take him out of town to emergency vet?

His gums don't look tremendously pale, but the lethargy and discomfort you describe is concerning, and yes, I would take him in. It's hard to say whether the bones could have caused a complete GI blockage, but if he's not defecating at all (or urinating???) then that is a potential concern. Even a serious case of gastroenteritis secondary to eating fish and bones is extremely uncomfortable, and warrants treatment. I would take him in ASAP.

Otherwise I think you can probably wait until tomorrow. Ultimately these symptoms are somewhat vague and can be a sign of a number of problems so you should go with your gut.

Poor Ekko! These signs can be caused by an obstruction (especially if he ingested bones and feathers) or a toxicity (perhaps something that the bird had eaten or made the bird sick). I recommend having Ekko seen by a vet as soon as possible to figure out what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment.

Cat ate string, now lethargic & not eating. Is it an emergency?

Oh naughty Loki for eating string! If he is more lethargic than usual and isn't eating, I would take him into the vet right away. It is possible there is still more string instead his intestines, and he should be examined by a vet now. If there is still string in his GI tract, then he will need surgery to remove it.
