My cat shook off Profender. Did he absorb enough for protection?

Yes it is safe to reapply most topical flea preventatives every 2 weeks if needed. This should be fine and safe to do since you are 2 weeks out. However, if you are still seeing fleas after this correct dosing, it is best to consider switching to a more effective product such as Revolution. Advocate does not treat for these specific type of worms- tapeworms. And tapeworms come from your pet either ingesting an infected flea or eating another pets poop that has tapeworms in it. You can give the profender a minimum of 2 after giving another topical flea preventative, since it is an intestinal worm treatment only. So if it has been at least 2 full days now, you can go ahead and apply the Profender and its best to keep Morph on Advocate monthly to prevent re-infection. If Ollie is within the weight range, he should be fine. Monitor for drooling, lethargy or twitching. You can always wash him with some Dawn dish liquid focusing on the area of application to remove the product. This is most effective if it is still wet.

Profender is absorbed rapidly through the skin into the bloodstream and ultimately reaches the gastrointestinal tract where it is effective in killing susceptible parasites (roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms). Profender will kill susceptible parasites that are present in the intestine at the time of treatment. Cats should receive treatments every 3 months and kittens should receive treatment at 8 and 12 weeks and every 3 months thereafter to prevent future infestations. Reinfection can occur from the environment and contact with other infected pets. She may not vomit any worms or pass them out of the stools. It depends what stage of the life cycle the worms are in and which species of worm you are referring to. If you don't see any worms it does not mean it is not working. I would refrain from reapplying this topical product, because you cannot be sure how much of it was rinsed off and it is best to not overdose him. Also the biting and scratching can be normal for any pet that has just received flea preventative if there was a large infestation of fleas. The "itch cascade" as we call it can last even after the parasites are gone, and often pets require a short course of steroids or a steroid shot to stop the itch completely. Your best option at this point, if you still see evidence of fleas or ticks, is to follow up with a medication called Capstar. This is the only flea ridding product that can be used in conjunction with topical flea preventatives, because it does not last in the pets system very long. You can safely redose the Pet armour in 2 weeks time. However I will say I am not a fan of this product and find there are better, more effective ones on the market. For instance, Bravecto, Nexgard, Advantage Multi, just to name a few.

The product safety specifications indicate that it should not be applied more often than once every 7 days for cats. I would not want to overload her system with more topical product in case she received a full dose and all of the dose was absorbed. In a week, it would be okay to apply another application. I can understand your concern here. It is likely going to still be effective b/c it will soak down to his actual skin. Plus there is a range for this product so even if most gets on the haircoat, it is usually going to still be effective. Worst case scenario is that it will lose some of its effectiveness around week 2-3 at which point you can safely apply an additional dosage.
