My cat shakes and is lethargic after bathing. What can I do?

Bathing should not cause inability to walk unless you used a product that is toxic (which can be easily accidently done when using a flea shampoo in cats), or if your Paro inhaled some water. I would suggest just being very gentle with the water, and not spraying any water directly on the face. Use a non-medicated shampoo. Best of luck with Paro.

I'm a bit confused as to whether you are talking about a cat or a dog. The post states dog but for pet's info it says cat...... A dog that shakes while getting bathed is likely nervous or scared. It is not usually from being cold which is what most people think. Be sure to use warm water when bathing. Ignore the shivering. It is not anything to be worried about. Best wishes!

Hi! It sounds like she gets stressed during bath time and that’s why that is happening. Cats don’t need to be bathed more that 1-2 times/year usually. They should be able to clean themselves. I’d recommend only bathing her if absolutely needed and letting her groom herself. Thanks for using Pet Coach!

Some cats are lethargic and less playful when they have fever (I guess that was checked by your vet) or painful condition, for example muscle pain, joint pain, spinal pain and more. If his activity is not back to normal in 2-3 days I would suggest trying a short course of anti-inflammatory medications.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Being weak, tired, lethargic and a change of meow is a sign of being sick. I recommend you bring Mennu to the vet. There are many possible causes and you need to do testing to check. For your second question- cats lick people because they like the taste of salt, or they are saying 'hi' and showing love. Poor Shadow! She is very young to be fully immersed in water, it is incredibly stressful and dangerous for young animals. Moreover, dish soap is very bad for their skin and coat and not even a truly effective way of killing fleas, when the eggs hatch there will be no residual activity. In future it would be much kinder and more effective to buy a spot on flea treatment such as frontline. Now as for why she is so poorly: best case scenario is that she has gotten very cold and stressed and her body is temporarily reacting to it. But on the same hand she may have got water in her lungs ( her lungs are tiny so it doesn't take much) and this will make her incredibly sick and is potentially life threatening. You need to get her to a vet asap because if something serious is going on it needs to be treated quickly. Hopefully it is just that she is in a bit of shock. It sounds like Bent may not be feeling well if he is hunching up when you touch his belly, isn't walking and is very lethargic. Illness, digestive upset, diseases and more can all cause these symptoms, so it is best to schedule an appointment with your local vet. They can help figure out what's causing Bent's illness and get him feeling better.
