My cat screamed, ran, and hides. Is her leg injured? What should I do?

I am sorry to hear about Kiara! I would watch her walk around and be sure she isn't limping. Check each foot including the toes, and flex and extend each of her 4 legs checking for sensitivity/swelling/bruising, check along her tail, and gently press along her spine. If nothing abnormal is noted I would not be concerned. If she does have a painful area or swelling/bruising then a trip to the vet would be recommended.

You may have just startled her by falling on her, and she is hiding because she is scared. If she starts limping, becomes lethargic, or stops eating and drinking, then she likely was hurt from the trauma, and I would take her into the vet for an exam.

If the leg is injured and Farra can't use it, it's best to bring her to a vet. Falling can cause an injury such as a sprain or break that requires veterinary care in order to treat it, along with pain meds or other medications to help Farra feel better. If she is crying, she is likely in bad pain. Keeping her calm, quiet and not moving around much can help until you can get to your vet, but care ASAP is best.

Poor Tom! Without seeing him I cannot say for sure what he has injured. He could have simply sprained a muscle or broke a toenail. Unfortunately, he could have also broken a bone. I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and take x-rays if needed. They will be able to get him started on pain meds and the proper treatment plan to help him feel better. I hope this helps!

Hello. It is impossible to say exactly what might be going on, but we should rule out the possibility of a bruised rib or small fracture. Your veterinarian may need to clip some hair down to the skin to see what things look like. It is good that everything else is well with her so it does not sound like there is anything serious. The chance that there is a blood clot contributing to these clinical signs is very unlikely. Typically, when something like this happens, your cat would be in absolutely uncontrollable pain, screaming and crying like nothing you have every heard. You might also notice that the feet and limbs are noticeable cold. This doesn't sound like the case. In all likelihood, Autumn simply sprained or strained something and is now experiencing some discomfort as a result. One other cause of shifting or sporadic lameness in the limbs are tick borne diseases such as Lyme disease. While these are far more common in dogs, they can definitely occur in cats as well. Depending on your geographic region, the type of tick borne diseases that are most common will vary considerably. Hope this makes sense. Get Autumn into the vet for some examination if the symptoms don't subside in the next day or so. Just don't try and give any over the counter pain medication at home as there are none that are safe for cats.

Hi and thanks for posting. Cats do not show pain like we do and they do a great job at hiding it. If she is making noise when you touch the leg, then it means she is in pain. Bella could have a fractured leg or pelvis. She may also have a ligament tear or other injury. I would recommend Bella see her veterinarian to have an exam and x-rays to help determine what the injury is where it is so she can get treatment and start feeling better soon.
