My cat screamed, ran, and hides. Is her leg injured? What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My cat suddenly screamed/cried at home. I turned around and she started running. We have no other animals no way she could have hurt herself. She won't let me touch her back leg and is hissing and running under the bed every time I try to look. What could have possibly happened? What should I do?

It sounds like something caused her pain. Sometimes cats can get their toe nails caught in carpeting. This can lead to a torn nail, sprained toe or leg injury. I would get her seen by your vet to make sure this is nothing serious. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation if needed.
