What does it mean when my cat rubs her butt on the floor after pooping?

If she does it one or two times, then it is likely a normal response to some feces or liquid stuck to her bum. However if she is doing this often, then this is a sign of full anal glands or intestinal parasites which cause irritation to the rectum as they exit, in particular tapeworms. Staining can be related to not cleaning well (some cats are not as clean as others), a loose/messy stool, not being able to reach the rectal area well to clean (like is Ashes is over weight) or longer fur that gets the stool on it. I recommend to figure out what is happening and try to address it appropriately. If it appears related to a looser stool, have Ashes checked by the veterinarian for parasites or bacterial issues. If the food is suspected to be the issue, I recommend to brand Royal Canin. It often results in less stool production and a good stool quality. I hope this helps.

If Sasha is 5 months old and has poop hanging from her bum, then I suggest checking her for worms, and also checking to see if she is eating any strings or hair. You can do this by getting a glove and looking through her poop. Otherwise, she might have a condition where she isn't in control of her anal sphincter. Please, de-worm Aldo (you can buy de-worming medications over the counter) but if there is no improvement after a few days, you should take her to your local vets to get her anal glands checked.

I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Your vet can perform a rectal and check the glands. Her loose stool may be dietary related. I would consider switching her diet and adding in a probiotic such as Purina fortiflora which can be found online quite easily. If Mila has abnormal stool quality or if she is overweight then it could be a medical issue. Most cats are very clean and groom themselves frequently. However, not all cats are this way and it could be a behavioral thing. If she is overweight then she may not be able to reach to keep clean. There is a food company called Royal Canin that tends to make pets have good stool quality and you may try this diet. If she has a bad stool quality, take her to the vet to see if anything should be done. I hope this helps!
